HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-11-13-PBC-min.pdf 1 TOWN OF LEXINGTON MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes of November 13 1986 meeting in Room G-15 Town Office Building as amended and accepted December 4, 1986 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kennedy at 8 V2 p m Others present included committee members Edson Scanlon and Touart; Aitchison and Rolands of Chartwell School Committee member Wik ; Capital E-penditures Committee member Spector staff Maclnnes and Coscia and Town Manager Hutchinson Agenda and progress report copies were brought by Aitchison and Rolands and re,,iewed Committee requested to have these papers sent to them in advance of the meeting Bridge School roofino is still a cause of concern Two drains need repairs, as there have been roof leaks, some of them bad Barbatos says they are the roof vents but holes have been observed Both Maclnnes and other school personnel have been up there Where is KLO it was asked Money is still owed Barbatos, and unless he comes to make the roof good he will not be paid Someone else could possibly be hired to do it Cutler contract for Bowman roof has been signed and is still in town offices Amendments also signed have been incorporated The contract should have been completed November 8. No infrared scanning will be done on Bowman as it is not deemed essential besides, the scanning contractors are too busy and it is late in the season Approvals. Contract with Chartwell is in the works. VOTED to accept $14 060 bid of Sallese & Sons. Inc for metal lockers at Bridge School color to be determined by the architect Report on Bridge-Bowman desion was given by Dick Heydecker who arrived with detailed plans in progress of both schools. A number of changes are being introduced due to input 1 from staff and parents Pavement for the handicapped will be improved; landscaping will be added in back as well as front of Bridge School walkways parking and traffic patterns will be revised at both schools Restroom facilities will more closely reflect staff sex ratio Floor and ceiling tiles that need replacing will be done in patterns Tutorial as :sell as voting machine storage (in Bowman) space will be added Vestibules drinking fountains with handicapped faucets and visual alarms will also be put in KLO is planning insulation replacement to follow TAMs removal of asbestos It was asked if parents of each school might participate in landscaping and planting Also it was suggested that the Bridge and Bowman school playground committees should be contacted Committee members emphasized that steps should be taken to 1 1 alleviate the echo chamber problem in the auditoriums and in the gyms A report on this was requested by Chairman Kennedy Staff members at Bridge expressed desire for a voice communication console However, this is a pricey item not found in any Le; ington school presently Maclnnes has not recommended this extra e;.pense Budget savings were reported in paving (less $18 000) roofing (less 163,000) while more will be expended for carpeting ($4,000 each school ) , addition of women s toilet stall ($4500) and ceiling tile replacement ($4 000) Another possible addition could be for clerk of the works After a brief discussion about folding walls, it was recommended that the gym-end partitions be replaced with four-foot sections of operable wall Noted that the specifications are now 60 to 70 percent completed VOTED to approve the preliminary architect s report VOTED to accept recommendations of Heydecker Payment aoorevals VOTED Payment of S4,200 to Chartwell for services in September and $16, 500 for services in October Committee membership Al Daniels has resigned from the committee but said he could be a consultant One candidate has applied to date Cart/ Library would like to install about $100 000 worth of improvements mostly to the interior such as lighting Terming the request a "wish list " Town Manager recommended Permanent Building Committee participation and guidance Meeting at 10 10 4 adjournedp m. until Thursday, December at 8 p m Another meeting was also scheduled for Thursday December 11 at 8 p m.
