HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-10-16-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Notes of October 16. 1986 meeting in Room G-15 Town Office Building The meeting began at 8'O7 with Chairman Kennedy presiding A quorum was not attained since only three committee members appeared Others present were committee members Edson and Scanlon (8'45) ; Construction Consultant Aitchison and his associates Brian Rolands and John Heninger; Selectman/Liaison McSweeney Capital Expenditures Committee member Spector; School Committee members Clough, Newman and Wik ; DPW Administration and Facilities Manager Coscia; Town Manager Hutchinson; and local newspaper reporter Lisa Redmond Aitchison passed out agendas and Progress Report No 1 asking for comments on format of the latter He then introduced Chartwell staff members Surveyor" (budget/cost control ) Rolands' and scheduler Heninger Detailing items on the progress report, Aitchison said that specifications are now getting out for metal lockers and carpeting Working drawings for the Bowman roof are now "moving along", and unit prices are to be confirmed in writing Authorization of infrared scanning to test the existing roof was determined within Aitchison s pervue and he was told to go ahead with ordering that KLQ's extra work on these schools to be fit into scope of work " Bridge-Bowman Asbestos Removal will be added to TAMS contract since KLQ cannot do it noted Heninger Budget Control Process was described by Rolands. A matrix sheet is prepared for each cost item comparing KLQ estimate existing (market price) , TAMS price Contingency is figured on each item Comitteeman Edson said he did not want to deal with such detail on a regular basis. Aitchison and committee members present agreed that the top summary sheet would be prepared for I all committee with only one copy of the full details for ! reference Master Schedule is now being prepared Heninger displayed the schedule lines on a board TAMS will confer with the School F Committee from November through mid-December and in this time span citizens meetings will be scheduled November 6 was the tentatively agreed date for the first citizens review meetings for Bowman and Bridge Kennedy suggested that a subcommittee be appointed to plan this meeting Noted that all projects should be begun before schools summer vacation The line approach to scheduling received commendation from committee members present. 1 General Items. The remaining Bridge and Bowman work should be added to the contract for TAMS, as KLQ cannot do or supervise the work Aitchison will check prices and go ahead with these arrrangements How much correspondence should be shown to the committee? Not all , committee replied fust contract and change-orders. Keeper of the official file? Presently records are being kept in Town Manager s office but eventually the Schools Business Manager (Maclnnes) will need this documentation Town Manager will consult Maclnnes on this Other questions brought up: Is the wiring on the high school stage asbestos-covered', Construction of elevators was noted as an example of "disruptive work" The next meeting scheduled Thursday November 13 at 8 o.m.
