Town Office Building The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kennedy at 8 05 p m. , with other committee members Edson, Laurence and Scanlon present Also attending were staff Coscia and Maclnnes Selectman-Liaison McSweeney Capital E..penditures Committee Liaison Spector School Committee member Wik and Construction Consultant Aitchison Approval of Minutes= MOVED (in separate motion for minutes of each meeting) to accept minutes of May 21 July 2 and 23 August 27 and September 4 1986 as submitted MOVED to accept as amended minutes of September 11 24 and 25 1986. Amendments included name and title of those present and clarifications of sentences regarding Bowman roofing bid pricing and citizen information meetings at various schools Selection of ArchitecttEnaineers Aitchison recommended Briggs for roofing of the four schools and TAMS for the packages of everything except roofing Briggs he noted, are basically specialists in the roofing field, and they run a good office Care should be taken in detailing the contract TAMS was especially commended for their excellent presentation - one of the best I ve seen - displaying sensitivity for Lexington's needs and desires Their asbestos division is a real plus and their local office is very handy to Aitchison s In ensuing discussion some concern was expressed about TAMS' ability to cover small maintenance-type items. Some committee members wondered if their asbestos insurance situation would remain as favorable after policy renewal time TAMS relatively less experience in school renovations is compensated by their enormous range of experience If site inspection should reveal considerable discrepancy between "as built" drawings and the existing structures. an additional small four-figure amount might be added on Aitchison offered to send a letter of intent on behalf of the committee reporting their decision of this evening Committee members opined that such written communications should come from the town Chairman will consult Town Manager and Town Counsel on how to proceed Following a few expressions of pleasure, especially at the savings margin to be attained early in the project the committee VOTED to accept Aitchison s recommendation to retain Briggs for roofing and TAMS for architectural work Recommended that these firms be invited to the next meeting Nert Meeting Postponed from October 8th to Thursday October 16th 1 Aitchison is now preparing a master schedule for the job, including architects engineers and roofing Maclrnes put in a plea for small jobs that could be done during the school year such as the safety curtains at Diamond and the high school Bridge School switch to lockers would call for drawing up new specifications and would be an add-on for Dick Heydecker of KLO.
