(2) Minutes for the CoA (cont)
September 15th 1981
It was noted by Mary McDonald, the bookkeeper for Meals on Wheels, that the program
has a healthy reserve in order to meey any financial needs which might arise.
In response to the question as to how the Senior Citizens Club receives its portion of
the CoA budget the board was told that the Senior Citizens submit their recreation bills
through our office which in turn submits them to the Town on our regular monthly
billing schedule.
Staff report. Melcher stated that there were 15 trips this past summer with 558(duplicated)
citizens taking advantage of the trips
Fifty-eight new senior citizens have responded thus far to their names now being
on the mailing list for the Newsletter
MASCD (Mass Ass. of Senior Center Directors) has scheduled their fall training
session for September 25th and 26th in Danvers J Clark spoke with enthusiasm
about the value of this series of seminars and urged that a representative from
the CoA attend. Mary McDonald suggested that the Friends of the CoA could pay -"
the cost Harris expressed interest in MARKETING A SENIOR CENTER.
A scond day for Congregate meals will start on October 5th and will continue on
succesive Mondays and Thursdays
Adult Education has set up seven courses for the seniors which will be held in
our offices
Seilers, the provider of our Congregate Meals, will no longer be contracting them.
Servonation has taken over and will start on October 1st.
A lenghty discussion ensued re the complications in our being assigned a Senior Aide
through MMHCC. It is our understanding that Betty Mangan, the Aide, will come to
our offices in the "middle of December' after Cathy Papazian returns to MMHCC after
her pregnancy leave is over In the interim, the Lexington Congregate Meal Program
will be coordinated by Vicky Badoian and Ursula Bellini and paid by the Friends of
the CoA. Board member, Goodwin, has volunteered to be trained and administer
the Energy Program until Mangan cal return to Lexington and Resume her positions in
this office Goodwin will look further into this issue.
Melcher requested and was given permission to submit a weekly column in the Minuteman
newspaper Volunteer Gail Colwell will be responsible for writing the column.
The Board of Health has agreed to have a three-month trial health clinic in this
offices We are concerned that since it will be here on a rotation basis rather than
a specific day of the week that the citizens will be confused and find it difficult
to remember the dates
Melcher announced that the Lexington Assistance Fund has less than 5100 in it Since
there is no way we can replenish that fund she requested that the fund be dissolved
and the balance put in to the Meals on Wheels emergency fund.
4OTION. Moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to dissolve the Lexington Assistance
Fund and give the balance in the account to the MOW account
Mlecher gave her thanks to the continued active support from the Board and to the
many volunteers who give unstintingly of their time.
