McDonald Coord Friends of the CoA The meeting was called to order at 5 07 pm There was no discussion of the Minutes of the previous meeting Coordinator Melcher reported that she had attended a meeting with Town Manager Hutchinson on General Revenue Sharing A lengthy discussion ensued re the comparison of the FY ' 81 CoA budget and the FY' 82 budget Special attention was accorded to the line item of $2240 as Lexington ' s annual contribution to Minuteman Home Care Corp Items which HAVE been deleted from the budget are the Minibus @1200 , and the cost to the Town of Meals on Wheels @ $1200 A proposal has been made to delete the MMHCC line item of $2240 A CoA Budget Study Committee was formed consisting of Harris Benway and Rooney to scrutinize and compare the Fy' 81 and FY ' 82 budgets in order to clarify some of the issues They will report back to other members IN WRITING A point was made that there will be a Selectmen' s meeting on Monday May 18th at 7 30 pm on the subject GENERAL REVENUE SHARING It is important that the CoA be well represented Board members are urged to attend the meeting and give full support to keeping the MMHCC line item in the FY ' 82 budget It was suggested the Director John Paul Marosy also attend A statement was made that a request has been made to MMHCC for aid in our congregate meals program. If this aid were given it would lessen the cost to both the Town and the clients for the congregate meals Od0J5 MW% it woe, op 6 ? `a 99 Y qq yew' RVPI 19m l (2) Minutes of the Council on Aging (cont) ( May 12th MOTION Moved seconded and voted unanimously to start a second day for congregate meals , a Tuesday, on either the 15th or 22nd of September 1981 MOTION. Moved, seconded and passed unanimously to accept the Treasurer ' s report as read New business Melcher announced that the Friends of the CoA are having a booth on DISCOVER LEXINGTON Day on Saturday May 23rd They will sell raffle tickets as a fund raising project for the CoA The grand prize will be a weekend fof two at the Ritz plus an evening of theater Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5 Board members are urged to give some time in the booth that day Other issues discussed 1 There are now 225+ unduplicated clients using congregate meals 2 A men 's club has been initiated The men arrive early to the Thursday lunches for an hour of conversation and fellowship It is an effort to create a fuller life for the senior men in Lexington 3 The Friendly Visitor and Outreach programs need revitalization Coordinators have retired or quit and we are searching for new leadership Harris says that he has a neighbor Elsa Shane, whom he hopes will help in this area 4 Transportation for the frail elderly is another need which is being addressed Several avenues are being explored to locate some sort of shared or donated transportation on a limited basis Perhaps use can be made of the new vans which MMHCC hopes to get in the near future 5 The CoA is planning a lavish celebration on June 24th from 2 00 pm to 4 00 pm. This is to celebrate the 50th edition of the monthly Newsletter It promises to be a special afternoon and all are invited to attend 6 A suggestion was made to place the CoA telephone number in conjunction with the congregate meals information MOTION MOVED SECONDED AND PASSED UNANIMOUSLY to adjourn the meeting at 6 15 pm THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL ON AGING WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY JUNE 9th AT 5 00 pm 'l dAfah(6-e— S ig��� lise V Morehouse Assist Coord CoA
