Luckmann, A. Green, L. Tropeano, B. Rubin, G. Harris, Staff J. Melcher, E. Morehouse Absent S. Clark, J. Clark, R. Weinstein, S. Goodwin, W. Sen, W. Benway The meeting was called to order at 4.40 pm by Ch. Rooney. Rooney introduced new Board member, George Hargis. Harris then told of his background and his interest in the Council on Aging. Rooney welcomed the Board members and urged members to seek new ways of strengthening the Council on Aging and its role in the community. An update of the current Board members and their addresses will be sent ( to all members. MOTION Moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to accept the minutes as read. The treasurer's report was read by Melcher in the absence of Tolunteer treasurer, Benway. MOTION: Moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to accept treasurer's report with correction. Coordinator's report 1 . Reports will be sent on a quarterly basis to keep Board members apprised of Council on Aging activities. 2. No nutrition report could be presented due to absence of Weinstein, who was out of town. 3. Use of the Great Hall as a nutrition site for one day a week will cost $1500 per year. This breaks down to a four hour day at $30.00. 4. The big yard sale in behalf of the CoA will be held on Sept. 13th from 10 00 am to 4 00 pm. Men are needed to help lift heavy items. The Church will store any unsold items to be sold at their own sale. 5. sh Open House is scheduled at the CoA for 10:00 am Wednesday Sept. 10th to enable political candidates to speak in their own be- half in the upcoming elections. We are reminded that Town Manager, Hutchinson, suggested that the CoA he represented at pertinent Selectman' s meetings. Rooney offered to keep track of scheduled meetings and attend those which affect the CoA. 7. The survey as designed by intern, Bea ?hear, is almost ready to be mailed to the senior citizens in Lexington. d. The number of residents in Lexington who have reached their both birthday has now gone past the 5000 mark. A letter of thanks to the CoA was read to the Board members. It will be sent to the Minuteman Publications . 9. The question was raised as to how we can share with the Town the many letters which we receive thanking and/or praising the role the CoA plays in the lives of the Lexington seniors . Other business : Green spoke to the issue of the lack of use and respect for pedestrian crosswalks. He urged that we keep up an active safety campaign for drivers and pedestrians. Tropeano spoke about the issue of Congregate Housing aa coordinated through MinuteMan Home Care Corp. A meeting concerning congregate housing is being held in Kielty Hall on September 17th at 2:00 pm. Sen will be asked to update knowledge of Lexington's involvement in Congregate housing. Rooney reported on current issues : 1 . Spoke of frustration after spending a great deal of time to help 1 with housing for a distressed citizen and then have her change her mind at the last minute about making the move. 2. Emergency help was given to two citizens during the preceding week. 3. Otis Brown will be asked to donate a good typewriter to the CoA MOTION. Moved, seconded, and passed unanimoualy to adjourn the meeting at 5:05 pm * ,a4 ;.s as The next regular meeting of the Council on Aging is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14th at 5:00 pm in the Council rooms at the Church of Our redeemer. IMPORTANT! Please call the office, 361 -0194, if you cannot attend. Any input from Board members as to how the expanded CoA room space may best be used will be appreciated. It was pointed out that the rent for the present office space is $300 per month through August 1980. It will be $350 beginning in September 1980. 2. Concern was expressed about Lexington involvement with the SCEOC afid the distribution of fuel allotments for the 80-81 winter. An effort will be made to ascertain the dollars actually given to Lexington residents during the past 79-80 season. n.b. The SCEOC was called. Their answer "not possible" Too busy to try and get info from their computor. 3. Areas of individual interest concerning CoA needs and activities will be pinpointed with the hope that each Board member will devote energy toward his/her interest and expertise. Will you think about your own aread of commitment and tell us at the October meeting? 4. The Town has identified two new Board members. They are Janet Clark 14Maple Street 861George Harris 31 Independence 861 -7504 We still await the word from the Town Manager's Office re our last appointment.
