Tropeano, S Clark, J Rooney Staff: J Melchor E Morehouse Observer D Barrington, League of Women Voters Absent A Green B Rubin The meeting was called to order at 7 40 p.m MOTION. Moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to accept the minutes as read. Due to the untimely death of John Carlson, the CoA treasurer, there was no reading of a treasurer' s report nor the final state of the FY80 budget of the CoA Because of the concern about the amount of money left in the FY80 CoA appropriation it was suggested that there were monies in CoA categorical accounts in the Town Treasury which could be transferred to the CoA general account A letter of trasnfer should be prepared so funds may be transferred from one account to another MOTION. Moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to transfer funds from! other accounts to the CoA appropiration for FY80 if it is necessary to meet budget needs An announcement was made that Wendell Benway has volunteered to be the treasurer of the CoA He does not want to be a Council member MOTION Moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to accept Wendell Benway as volunteer accountant for the Council on Aging ACTION MOTION Moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to commemorate John Carlson's years of service to the Council by purchasing and duly engraving a clock to be mounted in the office This action to be taken by the Executive Committee Oq s 11 44,Q-7.0+ ; w.. LGtQ-oto4 4 MINUTES OF THE COA June 11 , 1980 ( 2) Chairman' s Report Ch Sen read a list of persons who might be interested in serving as a committee to widen citizen advisory input for the CoA There is a need for this advisory support for the CoA activities LWV observer, Barrington, responded by saying that the League is interested in being part of a study group to aid in a needs assessment for a senior center Clark proposed an evening informational meeting with selected personnel to represent a wide variety of interests Sen will prepare a letter to be approved by the CoA Staff Report Melcher reported on a meeting with Nancy Banks and Beatrice Phear, a research intern working for the Town of Lexington, re a needs assessment for increased office space at the Church of Our Redeemer There is also a need for statistical data on the elderly in Lexington. The CoA will contribute their information also Present square foot rental costs, as compared with the going real estate costs in Lexington, will be submitted There willbe an informational meeting with the Selectmen on Monday, June 23, 1980 A volunteer team will spend the summer researching the real estate tax rolls in Lexington to ascertain the amount of tax dollars senior citizens contribute to the Town budget This act is being done at the suggestion of the field representative of the DEA The Friends of the CoA bake sale brought in $90 00 The Council on Aging distributed 1600 cups of free lemonade at Discovery in Lexington Day In order to eliminate misunderstanding we plan to submit a memo to the Town Manager' s Office following each informational telephone conversation Other business Ch Sen will urge the Town Manager to fill the three Board vacancies by July 1 , 1980 An ad hoc group of Sen and Weinstein discussed the status of the nutrition program Goodwin suggests that one lunch per week be sponsored using the Great Hall as a test Steven Clark of the nominating ad hoc group read the proposed slate of new officers for the Council on Aging Chairman J Rooney V Chairman R Weinstein Treasurer none Secretary none MOTION. Moved, seconded , and passed unanimously to vote the slate as read Sen discussed the proposals of Follen and Sacred Heart Churches for 1 A senior center 2 Rental housing 3 Condominiums 4 other Goodwin expressed concern about the future of apartment complex rental units and elder tenants in Lexington In giving a report on MMHC Goodwin reported that there was a budget MINUTES OF THE COA June 11 , 1980 ( 3) deficit due to the mandatory increase in the pay scale for chore help Their budget program will be filed for a bearing in July Goodwin also expressed concern that there has been little or no concern on the part of the League of Women Voters for support for the MMHC and urged LWV observer to report the need to the League The next CoA Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 1980, at 7 30 p m Town Manager, Hutchinson, will be in attendance MOTION Moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 9 30 pm ( 44/2e1,74,-6 Elise V Morehouse Secretary, pro tem
