HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-09-28-COA-min.pdf f,PXINGTON COUNCIL ON AGING Meeting, September 28, 1977 Visitors Center, Second-floor Meeting Room MINUTES Present CoA - J Carlson, S Clark, S Goodwin, A Jackson, C Miller, A Paranya, W Sen, J Stumpp, R Weinstein, D Williams Past Member CoA - M Ritter Absent F Cooper Guests John Paul Marosy, Deputy Director, Minuteman Home Care Corporation (MMHCC ) Janet Clark, Nutrition Project Director, MMHCC Joe Vaccio , Transportation Planner, MMHCC Merril Lee Johnson, Case Manager, MMHCO The meeting was called to order at 7 40 p m by the chairman, Jane Stumpp Minutes of the September 14th meeting were approved as distributed MOTION It was moved , seconded , and voted unanimously to pay the following bills Telephone $ 66 03 C & W Bus Co 100 00 Coordinator for Bus driver tip 5 00 Office supplies 1 85 MOTION Moved , seconded , and voted unanimously that $300 be deposited to cover Newsletter mailing costs for January The representatives from the Home Care Corporation were introduced John Paul Marosy announced that the case loads to date have been 232 homemaker cases and 60 chore services cases He also touched on the Home Care Corporation's responsibilities as to the Area Agency on Aging, which will set area priorities on the needs of the aging They hope to complete a written plan by November, which will endeavor to avoid duplication of services He mentioned that they were planning training sessions for Council on Aging members and staff, explained the following programs senior aides , CETA and Elder Service Corps They are planning to provide free regular assistance to each Home Care community Janet Clark stated that the Congregate Meals program is providing about 360 meals per day, Monday through Friday, with many more people involved in the program than 360 A plan is being prepared to bring people to the Congregate Meals sites and to develop an overview of transportation needs of the elderly in this area Mr Marosy commented at the end of the presentation that the Minuteman case load is increasing to the point that they might have to close their intakes because of lack of funds A discussion followed on the duties of the Lexington Council on Aging officers , using as a basis the Department of Elder Affairs "Design for Action Manual for Councils on Aging" Need was stressed for the Chairman to maintain regular communication with the Coordinator It was suggested that the Vice Chairman' s duties be expanded to assisting a Nominating Committee , the writing of the Annual Report, and quarterly Evaluating of Programs The Secretary must notify the Town Clerk at least 48 hours in advance LEXINGTON CoA MINUTES of September 28, 1977 2 of CoA meetings or cancellation of meetings The Treasurer must keep track of appropriated money which is handled through the Town Office, and also maintain the Council' s Expense Account for special services Election of officers then took place and the following persons were elected on a single ballot, cast by the Secretary Chairman - William Sen Vice Chairman - Roy Weinstein Secretary - Dorothy Williams Treasurer - John Carlson MOTION A motion was made, seconded and voted unanimously that a letter of thanks be written to the Recreation Department of the Town, thanking them for the two picnics they held for the elderly COORDINATOR' S REPORT The possibility of getting a Copying Machine was abandoned when it was discovered the final figure for overall cost Home Care Corporation will be moving to 365 Waltham St Art Op at the High School will open in mid-October An Open House will be held at that time Mrs Barrett in the Selectmen' s Office will let us know if anything pertinent to CoA is on agenda so that we can cover the meeting It is suggested that members of the CoA who have never attended the Selectmen' s meeting should plan to attend The Transportation bill submitted to the Selectmen was paid to C & W for the amount of 5380 25 Musical Trip to Tufts University on December 9 at 2 p m to attend an Opera, Mozart' s Cofi fan Tuitte, to be sung in English Request from Senior Citizens ' Club for a bus The afternoon would be open to everyone over 60 Labels have been made from the 1977 census for Newsletter mailing by Eileen O' Leary A large job well done MOTION It was moved , seconded and passed unanimously to fund a bus for the Opera trip to Tufts Univ on December 9 MOTION It was moved , seconded and passed unanimously that Steve Clark, Christina Miller, Bill Sen and Roy Weinstein be appointed to develop a set of Standing Orders to govern the proceedings of the Council The meeting adjourned at 10 25 p m Respectfully submitted , 6 Ann C Paranya, Secretary ACP/DW
