MINUTES

1 The meeting was called to order at 7 35 P M by Ch Stumpp Minutes
for the August 24th meeting were approved as distributed
2 Treasurer' s Report Mrs. Ritter noted our current balances 41.3,650 99
in F78 budget account ; 3296 75, Special Gift Account ; ' 500 , Xerox Fund

It was moved,and voted that these bills be paid
It was moved and voted that a final bill of 4380 25, due to C&W Trans-
portation for summer Mini-bus service be paid from the 0500 Xerox Fund
3 Orientation A brief historical background of the Lexington CoA was
read by Ann Paranya , with additions and corrections by Fratda Cooper
and Shirley Goodwin Jane Stumpp and Joan Melcher reported on the
major Council projects and achievements to date It was requested
that the background material be edited, typed, and distributed to all
CoA members Dorothy Williams will do this
4 Jeff Shaw of the Town Manager's office , completed the orientation with
a brief discussion of Town Procedures and dealt with questions raised
re Budget timing, space needs, Meals-on-Wheels , hiring procedures ,
population trends , transportation problems
5 Co-ordinator' s Report
a Lexington CoA has received calls from the AOA in Washington about
finding housing for a Lexington resident who is having trouble
re-locating here
b. A letter has been received from the Selectmen allowing the CoA to
solicit gifts However, the Selectmen and the Town Manager must be
kept informed about such actions
c An excellent CETA was interviewed as a staffer for the H S Op-Art
Center, but she decided to work nearer her Newton home The search
continues
d Mystic Valley is sponsoring a 4-week course in "Understanding Your
Aging Relative" to be given at Church of Our Redeemer in October
e 90 people have signed up for the Quincy Market trip
f A notice about discontinuation of the Mini-bus has been sent to
the Minute-Man FISH services available to the elderly were listed
in the notice
g Swimming program re-opened Sept 14th with 20 people participating
h A new bowling program, with lessons , drew 60 people last Monday
6 At Mrs Meicher' s request , it was moved and voted that she be author-
ized to hire a third bus for the trip to Cathedral in the Pines if it
is needed
7 Mrs Melcher issued a plea to CoA members to come in to the office to
read the file of current materials , correspondence , etc she has or-
ganized Papers should be initialed after being read
8 Reports
a Friendly Visitors have continued to function during the summer
Active visitors number 16 and they visit 18 different people
b. The Play Reading Group resumed activities on Sept 11 , adding two
new members The group now totals 12 and adds one or two new
persons at each meeting
c Meals-on-Wheels during August delivered 395 meals to 25 clients ,
with 32 volunteers giving 173 hours
It was moved and voted that an Advisory Committee to the Meals-on-
Wheels Co-ordinator be appointed
It was moved and voted that ?$10 be appropriated to cover Dr Mer-
feld's expenses at the 4th National Conference of the National
Association of Meal Programs, and $10 more to cover the CoA' s
membership in the organization, which will permit us to receive
its publications
d Dorothy Williams and Joy Sen reported on the copying machine Joy
feels that the machine is easy to use and produces durable copy
Cost to the CoA would be for paper only, 2*¢ per copy
It was moved and voted that the copying machine be accepted for
trial, contingent on the Co-ordinator's keeping a careful record
of use and cost, the Council to review same after a trial period.

e Frayda Cooper, a member of the Aging Forum project reported that
the Committee is proceding on the assumption that a national grant
will be forthcoming, and is planning a series of work-shop meetings
There will be an information meeting on October 4, at 7 30 P M in
Room G-15 of the Town Offices Dorothy Williams agreed to repre-
sent the CoA
9 A discussion on CoA officers ' duties centered around the guidelines
in the State Manual for CoA's
It was moved and voted that Lexington CoA add the office of Vice-
chairman, with definite , specific duties assigned to the office
Bill Sen suggested that drawing up some simple Bylaws might help the
Council to function more efficiently It was agreed that all members
be prepared to suggest Bylaw provisions at the next meeting
The Secretary was asked to distribute copies of the Co-ordinator job
description with the minutes
