Jane Stumpp Ch Stumpp read a letter from Jon Pynoos, Director of Minute-Man Home Care Cor- poration, thanking the CoA for the opportunity given to him and his staff members at our Jan 12th meeting to explain how the Home Care Agency works 2. Minutes for the January 12 , 1977 meeting were approved as distributed 3. Ch Stumpp, reporting on her meeting with the Town Manager to review the CoA budget, said that Mr Hutchinson had been very receptive to our needs He suggested that we have more trips to use the F77 bud- get allocations 4 Ann Paranya, acting for Merion Ritter, presented the following bills Telephone It 54 03 Muran Co (for office supplies) 57 51 Postage due (to Joan Melcher) 6 02 Total .5 117 56 It was moved, seconded, and voted to approve payment 5. Ch Stumpp read a draft of the description of the CoA to be includ- ed in the Annual Town Report , which was approved by the Council 6 The Open Meeting of the School Committee on Saturday, February 5, at 9 00 A.M was announced Dorothy Williams , Jane Stumpp, Joan Melcher, and Ann Paranya plan to attend. 7. CO-ORDINATOR'S REPORT a Bill Sen, Dot Williams, Daniel Roos , Carl Dolan and Joan Melcher met last week with Dave Eagles to discuss the transportation pro- gram A fuller report will be given by Dot Williams b A poll taken indicated that people are enthusiastic about swim- ming, but need help on transportation, The possibility of car pools will be investigated c Three people used the grocery shopping service last week. There was a picture featuring the service in the Minute-Man. d CoA Chairman and Co-ordinator met with the Town Manager. e. A temporary, volunteer co-ordinator for Meals-on-Wheels has been found. Dr Sylvia Graham Mersfeld, a non-practicing doctor, will undertake leadership of the program until a satisfactory CETA worker can be found She will work out of her home and the -CoA office The program can start on February 14th. f Bus trip suggestion a trip to Suffolk Downs g An IDEA Would it be possible for senior citizens who are able and willing to do some necessary, worthwhile work for the Town as tax payments? It would have to be part-time work to avoid complications with fringe benefits Perhaps this can be discussed with the Town Manager when he visits with the Council h. Two congregate meals sites will be fairly near Lexington and available to our seniors The Arlington site will be at the First Baptist Church, between the Center and the Heights The other site will be on Great Road, Bedford 8 Ann Jackson reported that she will meet with Mrs Gillam of M-M Vocational on Feb 4th to discuss the use of M-M students to work with the elderly 9 Ann Paranya reported that the first group of Friendly Visitors is well launched; a recent meeting to assess results so far was very encouraging. A second group will start training on Feb 1 Joan will mention the program in her contacts with local ministers. 10. Ann Paranya also reported the possibility of starting a play-reading group under the leadership of Lucia Hutchins, a senior citizen who has had considerable experience in dramatics. Time -- probably Sun- day afternoons , starting on March 13th Church of Our Redeemer and Follen Church will be sounded out for meeting space 11 Dot Williams reported that she had toured Muzzey Jr. High with the Community Center Committee and that it has good possibilities for CoA activities 12 It was moved, seconded, and voted that the CoA approve the printing of additional pages for the Discount Booklets 13 Dot Williams reported on the Jan 13th meeting of the Transportation Sub-committee C&W reported 99 riders up to Jan 1 They are willing to continue the program Prof Roos asked how much of a problem transportation really is in Lexington He suggested the following a Give people great flexibility but also regularity. b One-to-one contact with people is necessary c There must be well-defined origins and destinations d The time period should not be too long e Don't make unnecessary changes. The committee decided to start a one-to-one campaign in Emerson Gardens Discussion ensued as to whether the CoA should subsidize a bus for Wednesday swimmers Or should they pay? It was also moved, seconded, and voted that the CoA sponsor a bus to pick up senior citizens for the Library Film Series. 14 The CoA Warrant Article will be #59 on the Warrant 15 Shirley Goodwin reported on Home Care Four communities Roxboro, Carlisle , Harvard, and Winchester are not members Elderly welfare clients are supposed to be transferred to Home Care by July 1 ,1977 As of January 21 , 1977, Minute-Man Home Care was serving 24 clients , 3 of them in Lexington The new Deputy Director, John P. Marosy, and Meals Manager, Janet Clark, will meet with the Lexington CoA soon 16. Dot Williams suggested that we encourage prospective CoA members to fill out the forms available at the Town Office 17 Next meeting of the CoA will be on Wednesday, February 23, 1977 Mr Hutchinson, Town Manager, will be invited to attend 18 The meeting adjourned at 9 50 P M Respectfully submitted, Ann 0 Paranya Secretary
