Report from Joan Melcher
The Newsletter went out last week Our thanks as usuaj, to Dot Williams
Meals on Wheels._- Carl Dolan and I went to Symmes Hospital and talked
to Alma Coleman, Dietitian at Symmes All seems ready to go
if we give her a week's notice . We must supply thermo boxes to
keep the meals hot while in transport
Next Monday I plan to talk to FISH Maybe they have an idea
about who could head it up.
I talked to Charles Cook, who said the CETA worker application
for Meals is "In the works" I have no idea how long that
means
Jane Tappia called , from Tri Community They want to know when
we are going to start .
Grocery for Shut-ins has started with one person using the service last week
Probably more will this week with the snow problem
Pam Carvey is working hard We will have a picture taken of a
woman receiving her groceries . Ann Scigliano is most helpful
Mr Breslin is most encouraged It takes a while for Seniors
to get started on a new project
¶ansportation - We are having a sub-committee meeting hereThursday night
with Professor Roos He is a transportation consultant who
lives in Lexington and has volunteered his time to help us .
Bill Sen got him interested in our problem
Congratulations to Bill Sen on his recent marriage . Not only did he marry a
women with six children, he got married in the midst of a raging snob
storm
Swearing in of Town Manager I represented the CoA at the affair, and introduced
myself and also of a plug in for the CoA He had done his homework
and even knew of our little problems with the SC club
We should invite him to a BM as soon as possible I told him we
were most interested in what he had been doing for the SC in
Plainville
Carl Dolan has been doing alot of telephoning for us from his home , as mealtime
is a good time to catch people home He has a service which allows
so many calls a month I offered the Board pay any calls over the
allotment each month if he would keep track and record of calls he
has made
HomeCare Sent two people to Homecare this month
Mrs Melbye Called her to ask how her husband was Thought I would use this
opportunity to show her we are not too bad Had a pleasant conversa
tion with her. Mr. Melbye is out of intensive care and may be home
at the end of the week
Mrs Jones Her tree was removed by the Town and she was elated that we were
the only people interested enough to get it done for her
Death and Dying I am taking a course at the Church of Our Redeemer on the
subject I find it very interesting. Thought it would be helpful
to me . Will report on it later
Friendly Visitors Ann Paranya, Rivka Gruber and I have had several
meetings to plan meetings However, I think we are all set
to meet with our already formed group and to start another
Visitor group Meeting this Friday Jan 14, at 9 15
Shirley Goodwin made me look very good by delivering ten plants to
shut-ins and volunteers in the name of the CoA Oficourse I
got all the credit Thank you Shirley I did try to share the
honor
Neede.A Four volunteer drivers on January 26 to transport East Village
Drop In Center Ladies to the Library for the 11 o 'clock tour,
