1 The meeting was balled to order by Ch. Jane Stumpp at 7 40 P M
Minutes for the November 18th meeting were approved as distributed
2 Treasurer' s Report
Bills outstanding Postage due $ 6 83
Cider (Nov 7th reception) 10. 50
Conference fee (J Stumpp) 5 00
Expenses - Volunteers' Coffee 14 87
Total S37 20
It was moved, seconded, and voted that the Treasurer be authorized to
pay all present bills and any current incoming bills that are present-
ed before the next meeting of the CoA.
It was moved, seconded, and voted that the Treasurer be authorized to
place $600 00 in the CoA's postal account to cover costs of mailing
the January and March newsletters.
3 Mrs. Williams reported that purchase of a special IBM font as voted
on Nov. 18th was disapproved by the Town Manager' s office, The Town
lent an IBM font to Mrs. Williams , but it was broken and could not be
used Mrs. Williams is exploring the possibility of having the Newslet-
ter typed at the Town Offices
4 Co-ordinator' s Report
a. The grocery shopping program for elderly shut-ins will begin on
January 5th through the co-operation of the Concord Hill Market
and FISH
b.Presentation by the Selectmen of a Town Plate to Cora Pierce on her
100th birthday will take place at Dana Home on December 19th at 4P.M
A photographer will be there
c A committee has looked at two congregate meals sites and feels that
Follen Church is the more attractive St. Brigid' s is willing to
let us use their site for a minimum amount , -- enough to cover heat,
light , etc.
d Newsletter for January has gone to press, again thanks to Dottie
Williams ' s efforts
e The search for money to pay a Meals-on-Wheels co-ordinator is con-
tinuing Jack Crain of DEA is being contacted Arlington pays their
co-ordinator, a CEA worker, g5 per hour Eligibility for receiving
Meals-on-Wheels will depend largely on the recommendation of a doc-
tor or an agency like Tri-Community Health Services
f All plans are complete for the Open House at Buckman Tavern, Dec 9,
for CoA volunteers
g The transportation patronage has increased a little There will be a
picture and an article in the Dec 9th Minute-Man Anne Scigliano
is helping as much as she can
h. Ed Duggin, superintendent at Visitors' Center, has been very help-
ful . Should he receive a Christmas gift from the CoA? ( Council
members made individual contributions for a gift to Ed )
i The question has been raised as to whether handicapped persons
under 50 can ride on the CoA bus, Also, should legally blind per-
sons be allowed to ride free, as they can on the MBTA? C&W will
leave the decision up to the CoA. (Both options were moved, second-
ed, and voted approved by the Council )
C&W is worried by the relatively low patronage of the mini-bus. Joe
Rooney will sound them out about the length of time they will be
willing to continue the experiment
j The CoA will not sponsor the Colpitts trip to Bermuda in March,
but will advertise it Edith Cheever is working with them to take
reservations and answer questions
k. Continued work with Scout troop re notification of home-owners
along Bedford St and Greeley Village area regarding careful snow
removal Suggested that Scouts help owners who may have trouble
clearing their walks
1 Mrs Harry Jones needs to have a dead tree removed from her property
but cannot afford a tree surgeon Contacted Paul Mazarell of DPW
who suggested writing to the Selectmen about this particular case
5. After discussing the Congregate Meals situation, the following motion
was seconded and voted At the present time the Lexington Council on
Aging cannot commit itself to a Congrgate Meals program, but would
like the option of reconsidering the program another year
Jane Stumpp will ask Scott Plumb if interested Lexington seniors can
go to meal sites in other towns
6 Dottie Williams presented a draft for a Warrant Article to increase
the size of the CoA It was approved
7 Mrs Williams has been representing the CoA at the Community Center
Committee meetings
8 It was moved, seconded, and voted that the Council recommend that the
Co-ordinator' s salary, beginning January 1 ,1977, be set at ?k4 25 per
hour for a twenty-four hour week
9. Joan will begin organizing the Meals-on-Wheels program
10 Next meeting of the CoA will be on January 12, 1977 A representative
from Minute-Man Home Care Corporation will be invited to attend
