The meeting was called to order at 7035 P.M. by Mdrion Ritter, acting for Ch. Jane Stumpp, who was out of town. After correcting the lang- uage of item 2B to read"emergency transfer of funds" instead of "re- allocation of funds" the minutes for July 14, 1976 were approved as distributed. 2. Treasurer°s Retort Mrs. Ritter reported that no bills had been paid since the last meet- 1 ing, but presented the following bills for CoA approval: Telephone $49. 34. Typewriter ribbon 2, 05 Address labels 41. 85 Home Care Assessment, F77 2,142.00 (Assessment 52,244 minus $102 rebate from '76) Co-ordinator's salary for July 308.00 Total $2,5 3.24 It was moved, seconded, and VOTED to pay these bills. Mrs. Ritter reported that Town Counsel, Norman Cohen, has ruled that the CoA may open a checking account under the name Council on Aging2- Lexington to be used ftr money collected for bus trip luncheon tickets. ', It was moved, seconded, and VOTED that payment of an upcoming bill for approximately $55 for decals to Maran Printing, Arlington Heights, be authorized. 3. Co-ordinator's Report � a. Spent a lot of time delving injto Social Security and Welfare quali- fications for two different clients. b. Spent more time talking to Board of Assessors of Lexington trying to find tax relief for the same people. Prepared a small article regarding tax relief for the Newsletter, c, Looked up Nursing Home information. Put CoA's name on a mailing list at Women's Educational Union for an up-to-date NH book which will come out in November, d. Worked on Newsletter articles. e. Worked on MBTA bus routes and brought transportation map up-to-date. f. Worked on Discount Program. Forty shops in Lexington, Arlington Heights, and Waltham have agreed to give discounts so far. g. Congrgate meals at Minute-Man Vocational have been OK'd Program will be ready to start in September, h. Eldercare has set a price for meals to be brought by them to a cen- tral place and delivered by volunteers. In order to reduce their charge to '3,50 per day, they would have to have 25 customers per day. This seems beyond our reach at the moment, i. Received a letter of thanks from Ann Gelinas regarding the help given her mother. We have her permission to put the letter in the Brickbats and Bouquets section of the Minute-Man, j, Suggest putting another plea in the M-M to get interested people to call the office with ideas concerning new transportation pro- grams. k. Mr. Chester McCabe of Lexington, Mississippi, visited CoA office and asked for information about our services to the elderly, ( 1. Proposal for recognizing Cora Pierce's 100th birthday. m. Cary Library has requested that they be put on the CoA mailing list to receive the Newsletter. n, New phone number - to reach co-ordinator - is 861 - 0195. 4. There was some discussion about the Discount Program, especially on ways to see that the discount privilege for seniors is not abused. The ID cards will be stamped for those over 65, for discount use, and will also carry a statement about use. Mrs. Williams presented a model for the ID card, which was enthusiasti- cally approved by the CoA members. Since it incorporates the Minute- Man engraving used on town stationery, etc. , Mrs. Williams will ask permission of the Town Manager to use it. 5. Articles prepared for the next Newsletter by Mrs. Melcher, Mrs, Paranya, and Mrs. Williams were read and approved. Mrs, Williams will deliver the copy to Mr. Lillis at Minute-Man Vocational during the first week in August. Mailing early in September. 6. Mrs. Melcher has made arrangements for a Xmas coffee party for all CoA volunteers at Buckman Tavern on Thursday, Dec.9, 1976 from 10A.M, to 12 noon. She has cleared this with all necessary persons. 7. Mrs. Ritter asked if the CoA should not have release forms from all persons who go on the bus trips. Mrs. Melcher will consult Mr. Cohen, Town Counsel , about this. 8. Mrs. Paranya mentioned the Workshop being given by the Counseling Collaborative in East Lexington on dealing with problems of aging parents, The Council authorized Mrs. Paranya to attend the first meeting (which is free) and assess the program. If it seems worth- while , the CoA will underwrite the cost ($25) of the remaining three workshops. 9. Friday, August 0th, at 10 AM was set for a subcommittee meeting to compile transportation data , and examine existing programs from other towns, in preparation for the regular CoA meeting on August 10th, which will be devoted mainly to transportation problems. 10.
