S.Goodwin, A.Paranya , M.Ritter, J.Rooney, D Williams Town Staff Charles A. Cook, Personnel Administrator Observers B.Weiss, (LWV) , J Zoerheide 1 . The meeting was convened at 7 30 P M. by Merton Ritter in the ab- sence of Ch Stumpp. After a correction in Item 1.0 - changing the word Director to Administrator - the minutes for April 27th were ap- proved as distributed. The Treasurer' s report noted a balance of 4 , 285 15 from the original $5,000 appropriation Bills for printing the first newsletter are still outstanding 2 Mrs Williams reported that 1 ,000 copies of the newsletter have been printed and she hoped that the rest would be finished by the end of the week. 3. A report from Joan Melcher, Volunteer Co-ordinator, was read a. Information on volunteers has been taken from the questionnaires typists , drivers , etc b. Questionnaires taken to volunteers to type cards for office file. Three women have completed their cards c Talked to Joe Rooney concerning a Mr. Charles Bellows d. Talked to Jean Treat regarding Lexington transportation for the aged e Attended meeting on Medicare , Medex, and Social Security with Pat Manning Introduced myself, told Senior citizens about the Lex- ington Council on Aging and its plans. f. Suggestion has been made to put a sign indicating Lexington CoA at the foot of the stairs in the Visitors' Center g. Requested large wall map showing Lexington precincts from Jeff Shaw's office 4. A letter from the Welfare Office was read, asking that a reprentative from Lexington CoA be appointed to an Advisory Committee to the Wel- fare Dept which is being formed. Merton Ritter will phone to indicate our interest and to ask for time to make an appointment 5.Mr. Charles Cook, Administrator of Personnel for Lexington, explained the process for filling a new position The job description will be reviewed by the Personnel Advisory Committee and Administrator, who will then evaluate the job requirements and set a salary range There would be no cash benefits for a 20 hour per week employee , no retire- ment benefits under the state plan, deductions for State and Federal income tax would be handled by the Comptroller's office The Personnel Administrator will review all applicants and refer the top 3 -5 to the CoA for interviewing. To a question as to whether Mrs. Melcher could be hired on a tempor- ary basis for the month of June , Mr Cook thought it possible Jeff Shaw could provide details on this. � f 6.Mr Rooney reported that the CoC meets tomorrow (May 12) and he anti- cipates no problems in getting authorization to canvass merchants for a discount program; also, the Lions Club will consider paying for decals for the program. 7 Mr. Rooney has a small table for the CoA office. The Council author- ized the buying of materials to make a bulletin board for the CoA office. 8. Mrs Williams read a memo from Jeff Shaw about expanding membership on the CoA This will require Town Meeting action, since the number seven was part of the original Warrant Article The Town Manager will include an Article providing for additional CoA members in the warw- ants for the special Town Meeting later this spring. A motion was made , seconded, and passed that the Council invite CoA nominees to attend meetings as observers/volunteers and that they be individually notified of meetings 9 A preliminary draft of a letter to the Senior Citizens Club, replying to their request for money to subsidize their bus trips, was read CoA members present agreed that some revisions should be made in the letter and that it be referred to Mrs Stumpp when she returns. It was stressed that the point to be made is that original grants to the Senior Citizens Club were made before the Town Manager Act was passed, and that recent use of the funds has not been in compliance with Town laws. It was suggested that the Recreation Dept. be asked to work with the CoA in handling the issue , and that Mr Busa, Recreation Committee Chairman, be invited to attend the next meeting of the CoA 10 Rev. Goodwin reported briefly on the transportation situation It was decided to ask Mrs. Stuart, from FISH, to postpone meeting with the CoA until June 11 The next meeting was set for Tuesday, May 25, 1976 The meeting adjourned at 9 30 P M.
