Stumpp Minutes of the April 13 meeting were approved as distributed. 2. Dottie Williams , appointed to fill out Helen Sullivan' s term and for a continuing 3-year term on the CoA, was welcomed to the Council on the motion of Mr. Rooney. 3. Joan Melcher, Volunteer Co-ordinator, reported on the following accomplishments in the past two weeks a. Letters to local churches (20) about the CoA are completed and ready for mailing. b. Letter sent to Mayor of Lincoln, Nebraska asking for details on his program for obtaining lower rate plumbing and carpentry ser- vice for the elderly Specifically, how to set up program to avoid union troubles c. Notice re MBTA passes sent to Minute-Man, and published. d. Copy of questionnaire with accompanying letter sent to the Minute- Man for publication. e. A call by a senior citizen re part-time work was referred to mana- ger of Friendly' s , who had an opening. f. Joy Greenleaf will organize the clippings scrapbook. g. Eileen O'Leary is interested in helping with the newsletter. h. The computer lists have been checked against each other for names of deceased, persons in nursing homes ,_ Dana Home and the Grey Nuns i. A list of 13-14 persons (not senior citizens) who might serve on the Discount Committee has been assembled. Also, a suggested form to present to shopkeepers has been drawn up j . Thirty-four ( 34) volunteer hours were lagged during the last two weeks k. Joan has met with Greta Glennon and Anne Scigliano. Mrs Melcher' s report was accepted with thanks. 4. Discussion re Discount Program! It was moved by Mr. Rooney, seconded, and voted that a letter be sent to Mr Robert Reynolds , Preident of the Chamber of Commerce, asking permission to contact Lexinton merchants in regard to discounts for senior citizens over age 65. Mrs.Stumpp will write the letter. Mr Rooney offered to get local organizations to underwrite the cost of printing decals and senior identification cards for the discount program. Mrs . Melcher will contact Arlington for sample forms . 5. Mrs Stumpp read letters from the Sr Citizens' Club requesting $2 ,505 for bus trips and from Temple Scanlon asking about the availability of funds for Greeley and Vynebrooke bus trips There followed a lengthy discussion on bus trips, It was agreed that the CoA needs to consult with the Town Counsel and with Jeff Shaw re- garding the CoA' s responsibility for Sr, Citizens ' Club trips Mr Rooney agreed to meet with Town Counsel on this. The Council suggested that Mrs Stumpp proceed with the letter to Mr Melbye , with copy to the Minute-Man, as outlined in the March 23rd minutes. 6 Names of nominees for the CoA were reviewed; that of Levi Burnell was added to the list Mrs Stumpp will write to the Town Manager request- ing an 11 member Council, with our reasons, and listing nominees 7. Several groups and individuals have indicated interest in giving money to the CoA, There was a question as to whether The CoA can accept such funds ; this will be investigated 8 Volunteers will begin compiling the scrapbook and typing cards for the office file of all persons who retuned the questionnaire. 9 The Treasurer, Merion Ritter, reported total expenditures to date of $433. 85 Rev,Goodwin suggested setting up a method of accounting for funds so the CoA always knows exactly where it stands 10 Mrs. Stumpp reported that Mr Cook, Town Personnelreetor, will meet with the CoA at the next meeting. He will need a job description, and the number of hours expected of a co-ordinator The Council agreed that a co-ordinator is needed for 20 hours per week, salary to be $3,500 per i year We shall need to get permission to use part of our town-allotted funds to augment the State grant of $2,000 for a co-ordinator. 11 The second Newsletter will be ready for final typing on Thursday, April 29th 12. The next meeting, on May 11th, will deal with personnel matters. On May 25th, the CoA will begin to discuss transportation problems.
