1 . The meeting was called to order at 7 39 P.M. by Ch. Jane Stumpp.
After noting a correction in the minutes of December 16 - Sec 2 ,
line 5 to read "in all 9 precincts" - it was moved, seconded, and
voted that the minutes be accepted as distributed
2. It was reported by A. Paranya that the computer listings would cost
about $3 more per thousand names , as they will have to be specially
programmed to include occupations as requested by the CoA
3. Mr. Shaw, reporting for the Town Manager, said that Mr. O'Connell
felt , after investigation, that joining the Minute-Man Home Care
Corporation would be a good idea. He further stated that once the
CoA had established needs of Lexington seniors, it would be possible
to consider hiring a coordinator. Mr. Shaw also brought to the meet-
ing a sample budget sheet to assist the Council in completing its
budget for F77.
4. Mrs. Stumpp reported that the CoA may use the second-floor office
space in the Visitors' Center, and that the existing telephone there
can probably be converted to our use. Mrs. Jackson has offered the
CoA use of a file. Other equipment is already in the office.
5. There was further discussion on Home Care. Seven towns; Acton, Arl-
ington, Bedford, Burlington, Concord, Littleton, and Wilmington are
already members of the Corporation, and the formal proposal to the
State Dept. of Elder Affairs for acceptance of the Minute-Man Home
Care Corporation is being drafted. Local communities share in paying
one-fourth of the administrative costs of the Corporation. Lexing-
ton's assessment will be $2,244, based on the fact that Lexington
has 10,2% of the Minute-Man area's elderly poor. The Home Care Cor-
poration will provide services to older citizens who are in the SSI
program or whose income is under $400 per month. Information and re-
ferral services will be available to all senior citizens.
It was moved, seconded, and voted unanimously that Lexington join
the Minute-Man Home Care Corporation. The secretary was directed to
notify Rev. Richard Douse of Burlington, Acting Chairman of the Board
of Directors of Minute-Man Home Care of this action.
6. Mrs.Ritter and Mrs. Paranys reported that the Minute-Man will be glad
to publicize the activities of the CoA and will use the CoA minutes
as a basis for reports.
7. There was some discussion as to the advisability of certain pro-
grams : Should the CoA sponsor luncheons and/or bus trips, for ex-
ample, How should the CoA work with the Recreation Dept? Mrs Stumpp
will ask the Recreation Dept. to send a representative to themnert cz.
CoA meeting.
8. The newsletter and questionnaire were discussed. Mr. Shaw informed
us that the town has a bulk permit for return mail which the CoA
may use to facilitate the return of questionnaires.
It was moved, seconded, and voted that a subcommittee be appointed
to start work on a newsletter. M.Ritter, H.Sullivan, and A.Paranya
volunteered to form the nucleus of this sub-committee , and D.Williams
agreed to help.
9. Transportation problems in Lexington were discussed, and the compli-
cations of the situation acknowledged. Mrs.Stumpp will call Mr. Mal-
oney to see if there is any way in which school busses can be used
to increase transportation services for senior citizens.
10 Mrs. Williams called attention to HUD funds which might be avail-
able for special projects such as transportation. Mrs. M.Cole, Field
Supervisor of Inter-City Homemaker Services , suggested that affluent
suburbs like Lexington might have difficulty getting HUD funds. Mrs.
Cole also pointed out the need for emergency funds to help people
with more than $400 monthly income who would not be covered by Home
Care.
11. The next meeting of the CoA was set for January 13, at 4 00 P.M.
12. The meeting adjourned at 9:38 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
