Minutes of 2/23/00
The Minutes of 2/23/00 were accepted with the following correction.
The Seventh Annual Voice for Justice dinner will be held at the Charles River Museum,
not at the Marriott Hotel.
Seventh Annual Voice for Justice Dinner
Roz Gittleman elicited members' interest in attending the dinner; cost is $50 per person.
( Override
Nancy Freed reported that each department had submitted a program important to the
town for inclusion in the bundled override. The Social Services Department had selected
Wayside/RePlace. Nancy Freed had given informational presentations to the Selectmen
and Town Meeting Members' Association.
An informational meeting on the override will take place at the Senior Center on April 11
between 9:30 and 11 Nancy further commented that staff and Human Services
Committee had worked hard with Wayside RePlace which had become a dependable
partner She recommended that the committee begin to emphasize other interests such as
preschool funding and a drop in center
Wayside RePlace presentations: override information; research on a drop-in Center
Steve Baran will include in the mailing for the next meeting information from Wayside
RePlace prepared for the override. as well as research pertaining to the feasibility of a
drop-in center
Gay Lesbian Issues
Gay and Lesbian citizens have been invited to participate in the next meeting of the
Human Services Committee, and this will also be placed on the agenda.

Recruitment of candidates for the Human Services Committee
Steve will invite Fred Mazer, M.D to consider membership on the Human Services
Committee. He had earlier indicated to Steve an interest in volunteering.
Tom Blumenthal
Tom expressed his regrets that he could not become a committee member due to the
pressure of other assignments including fundraising for Cambodian orphanages.
Council on Aging Update
Steve reported that efforts to find a new site for the Senior Center were proceeding in
high gear. He mentioned, further, that Nancy Freed had presented a vision of what a
future Council on Aging/Senior Center would be like and committee members expressed
an interest in having Nancy make a presentation.
HealthPac Update
Khalil Khatri reported on a school survey reporting on the utilization of tobacco, alcohol
and drugs.
( Early Childhood Issues
Barbara noted there would be an early childhood meeting in April while Steve urged that
the committee resume its interest in this area. The Community Partnership meetings
needed to include more Lexington input. He suggested that a greater allocation of funding
for parenting workshops be advocated in the future.
Eva Glick
Barbara may be in touch with Eva Glick to determine if she has a continuing interest in
the Human Services Committee.
