Human Services Committee
January 26, 2000

Minutes of 12/1/99
The Minutes of 12/1/99 were accepted.
Wayside RePlace
Laura Kurman and Becket Rhodes of Wayside RePlace will report at the February committee
meeting.
Committee membership
Replacements on the committee are needed since Greg Kotonias Payne and Barbara Bartlett have
resigned.
Liaison Reports
1 The Council on Aging is searching for a new site. Competing interests for use of the site
between the old and young were noted.
2. The Domestic Violence Response Team grant has been renewed. The team is "expanding
the circle" by way of educating the community and getting increased support. It will
revise its brochure in the January meeting. There will be a DVRT booth on
LexFest!/Discovery Day May 20
3 Early Childhood Education committee members are advocating for full-day kindergarten.
The new Superintendent supports this. Financing is likely to prevent immediate action. A
scholarship for a four year-old is still available through the Preschool PTA.
4 The Health Protection Advisory Committee continues to pursue a variety of concerns
including smoking prevention.
Committee Priority
The issues for domestic violence are how to reach people who need services and what can be
done preventively The committee agreed to adopt this as a priority
Next meeting
The next meeting will be Wednesday, February 23 at 7 p.m.
