Minutes of 3/4/98
The Minutes of 3/4/98 were reviewed and accepted with the exception that
Nancy Freed was present at that meeting although her presence was not noted
in the minutes.
Rick Safford
Steve Baran was asked to convey to Rick Safford that his attendance at
meetings was needed even though he might have to alternate meetings of the
Human Services Committee with those of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
RePlace
Future space requirements for RePlace, particularly in terms of a drop-in center
were discussed. The potential for related space needs for seniors and preschool
was noted. Nancy Freed suggested that the focus should be on RePlace and
drop-in center space.
It was noted that the loss of the Hancock space would have a significant impact
on the RePlace budget since Hancock had not charged for its space. It was
thought important to project this impact in terms of future rental and to determine
how much space would actually be needed taking into consideration counseling
and drop-in center (for a middle school population) requirements.
Possible sites mentioned:
❑ the armory next to the Lexington Club;
o the VFW building in the vicinity of the Gingerbread coffee house;
❑ school buildings after 3
Eva Glick said she was willing to assist RePlace in their planning.

Preschool Survey
There was some discussion of the wording of the introduction to the survey to the
effect that the Human Services Committee is interested in finding out if there are
parents who want to send their children to preschool and are unable to do so. It
was agreed that the return address should include Steve Baran's name and that
respondents' questions or remarks should be addressed to him.
Food Pantry
Steve Baran reported on the Food Pantry concern that there might be a shortfall
in funding this year Helen Cravis commented on the generosity of the Church of
our Redeemer in making permanent space available and how the Food Pantry
was important to the elderly, disabled and unemployed.
