Cravis, Shirley Kesselman, Lauren MacNeil

The Minutes of 9/4/96 were approved.
Social Service Director
Nancy Freed has been appointed as Social Service Director She will be invited to the
next meeting.
( Candidates' Interviews
Barbara Ciampa. Helen Cravis, Shirley Kesselman and Lauren Macneil were
interviewed for three available positions on the Human Services Committee. Among
needs identified by candidates and through committee discussion were:
1 Alcoholism among youth and elderly the possibility of a task force to address
this.
2. Services for homebound and isolated elderly
3. Long waiting lists for preschool placements. Joyce Holloman, Director of the
Children's Center and Ephraim Weiss, Town Meeting member will be invited to
the next meeting.
4. The RePlace deficit; RePlace possibly having too many programs and yet
needing to have programs that would be attractive to funding sources.
5 Family abuse among youth and elderly Ramifications of violence in the
community
t 6. Poverty

7 Creating communication between minorities and other groups in the schools;
mediation between students on racial issues.
8. Increased coordination so as to locate gaps in human services.
9 Burden of transportation to the Town budget in view of the numbers using
transportation.
Barbara Ciampa, Helen Cravis and Lauren MacNeil were chosen by the committee to
be recommended as candidates for membership to the Board of Selectmen.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will take place on October 30 at 7 p m.
