Joan Abrahams' Report on RePlace Programs
See attached Minuteman report on RePlace programs summarizing much of what was
reported by Joan Abrahams
Additional discussion Under $69,834 contract--counseling; outreach including
child assault prevention (CAPP) , student assistance program, sibshops, peer
program (friend-to-friend, connection hotline & movie night) , multi-adventure progam,
project depth and smoking cessation Not under contract take charge for violent
children Jolley Anne referred to the desirability of developing new prodect
lines whreas the Bill Deveney evaluation questioned whether it was realistic for
Replace to try to do as much as it was doing with a small staff
Discontinued programs drop in, substance abuse, athletes' and alcoholism work-
shops, also weekend activities
Replace has become the sole counseling agency to which the schools refer
Goals and Objectives
Candidates for the Human Services Committee will receive the Needs Assessment
The Committee had wanted a drop-in center At this point its desirability has
been brought into question Eliot Community Human Services had been successful
through its drop-in center in Depot Square in attracting a broad range of youth
including troubled youth At present, a task force is investigating the need for
a drop-in center Youth brainstorming is being pursued by Replace
Another goal will be to establish a relationship with the new Human Services
Department staff Quarterly meetings are indicated to keep in touch with the key
players
Human Services Committee Influence
On balance, it was felt that the Committee had successfully exerted its influence
in the Town Its recommendation that staffing for human services be expanded had
been heeded
