The Minutes of 12/1 were approved
Needs Assessment meetings
Jeanne Luongo has been to Hayden Recreation Center
Eva Glick attended a meeting of the Recreation Committee where
she identified these issues
1 High school students do not take advantage of programs
offered by the Recreation Department
2 The Department's programs do not seem to be planned in
relation to transportation schedules
3 Needs of single parents need to be given consideration
4 High school students who are worried about paying college
tuition can save by administering recreational programs
5 The Department is making a real effort to adhere to ADA
requirements and seeks to fashion programs which will meet
the needs of special needs persons including Sing Along and
skill trips
6 The Department sees the need for a recreation building
including a youth drop in center
Eva Havas and Donna Hooper met with Chris Casey, Brian Spencer
and Dana Ham They saw the need for a full-time youth officer and
a place where kids can go, recommended meeting with high school
peer leaders

Eva Havas expressed concern that the community was not taking a
proactive stance regarding merchants selling cigarettes to
minors
RePlace
Roberta Black, President of Replace, is concerned that
departmental request for supplementary funding had not specified
RePlace as the agency which would be recommended for carrying on
activities in the community around domestic violence She had
other concerns about the RFP process, specifically in relation to
bidding
Steve reported on RePlace interest in funding possibilities for
educating the community about smoking avoidance
Demographics
Donna Hooper circulated the final draft of the Human Services
Committee report on the 1990 census as an internal document
Steve will send out the RFP prepared by the Health Department
(School Department RFP has already been circulated to Committee
members)

Steve will distribute COA Linkage report to Committee members
