Needs Assessment meetings
Bob Miner was interviewed by Donna Hooper and Eva Havas as part
of the Committee' s assessment of the youth needs Among topics
discussed were
apprehension of young people about the debts many of them
would eventually incur from further education;
condoms as a community concern;
his support for a RePlace outreach worker, the issue of
students who choose not to go to RePlace and strains between 1
the School Department and Replace;
the limited success of the drop-in center begun by Phil
Geiger, former Superintendent;
parents in relation to teen parties getting out of control
in their homes
Meetings are to take place with Martha Queenin, social worker;
the Superintendent of Schools and the Chief of Police
Further interviews planned
Recreation (including recreation for special needs young people) ,
Eva Glick; Hayden Recreation, Jeanne Luongo; Coalition for
Battered Women; single parents, Donna Hooper and Steve Baran;
Deer counselors; latch-key children; clergy
FY '95 budget
1 The Committee reviewed its preliminary recommendations for
the FY '95 budget Donna and Steve provided handouts as
background analysis The level-funded budget for Replace is
$67, 800 with a supplemental budget request amounting to
$7,500 The level-funded budget amount for CMARC is $10, 475
2 Donna reviewed the essential aspects of a grant for health

education recently received by the School Department noting
that there seemed to have been a limited contribution by the
community to the original proposal
RePlace and the Human Services Committee are interested in
the implications of the grant for youth services The Health
Protection Advisory Council includes Roberta Black and Bill
Blout from RePlace and Eva Havas from the Human Services
Committee
3 Donna reported that she and Steve Baran had met with Sheri
McCann and Gail Shattuck of CMARC (Central Middlesex
Association for Retarded Citizens) Industries, reviewed
their budget request and noted that the numbers of Lexington
residents served by CMARC continued to increase CMARC has
been particularly successful in its marketing efforts having
made use of telemarketing techniques in the last year
Human Services Coordinator report
1 Detailed information about the availability of various
sources of financial assistance for electricity and fuel was
given during the meeting to the Lexington Minute-man
reporter, Art Ballou
2 The Fair Housing and Human Relations Committee has been
taking the lead in advocating for affordable housing on the
Met State property
3 Steve recommended that the quantitative data collated by Ann
Irving and Donna Hooper be eventually related to qualitative
data in the Human Services Committee needs assessment
