Coordinator ' s Report
Dteve reported
a registry for batterers to assist judges in tracking
and sentencing had been engrossed by both houses and
was to go to the Governor for signing ( see attached )

Neighbors" had successful fundraising event with money
and/or gifts in kind going to the Support Committee for
( / Battered Women a day care scholarship and a needy family

Emergency Relief Fund and other topics will emphasize
importance of case management in relation to Fund in future
meetings
in relation to Americans with Disabilities Act
will visit place that has instruments for hard of
hearing in near future with Renee and Rick ' Renee
mentioned positive experience with instrumentation
enhancing MacWorld presentation at computer fair )
Recreation Committee subcommittee moving ahead on
survey of programs and facilities ; 3 will meet with
Executive Director of Chamber of Commerce who has
positive interest in disability around plans for
meeting with Chamber in October or November at one of
their monthly luncheons and in relation to a special
day they are planning (Town will have exhibit )
Steve and Renee will meet shortly with Trustees of
Public Trusts about the Emergency Fund ; Steve will
present a full report next time to the Committee

7ommittee was seeking members and saw an opportunity to make a
contribution tu the Town
She picked up on discussion of battered women and said that she
had been a volunteer in a battered women' s shelter , was
particularly interested in women' s issues including domestic
violence and planned parenthood had worked as an aide in the
California State legislature
As for Lexington, she is aware that there are problems
particularly for young families who are faced, as she and her
husband are, with how to juggle a mortgage She speculated that
it might be rteresting for Lexington to adopt a "sister city" so
that we could learn how we fit in with what is going on in other
Jnmmunities
Ruthie is currently the Project Director of the Boston Pediatric
AIDS Project at the Dimock Community Health Center

Renee reported
meeting with David Gil of the Heller School at
Brandeis, along with Bob Bowyer Planning Director, and
Steve regarding possible approaches to analyzing U S
'Census data for Lexington Dennis is particularly
nterested in data analysis Steve will distribute
available reports prior to next meeting
a very positive meeting with the Council on Aging and
Friends of the Council on Aging to discuss modes of
operation for helping in emergencies of people over 60
and a possible contribution from the Friends talked
about need for case management, the importance of
understanding overall needs of client and marshalling
resources ; groups resolved to continue to work
together

Wednesday, September 2 planning session on needs assessment ;
Saturday, September 12 or Saturday, September 19 discussion of
plans for the coming year ;
Wednesday, September lG meeting with RePlace ( they are to
present using program budget format and give an unduplicated
count of number of people served in each area funded

Special Needs Housing
:ick eported that the special needs housing process was going
forward with a lot of interest by parents but much difficulty in
arranging anything feasible
