Human Services Committee

Present Renee Cochin and Bob Cushman, Co Chairmen ; and Ann
Irving ; Steve Baran, Human Services Coordinator ( recorder )
Absent Dick Dougherty, Dennis Murakami and Jack Sarmanian
The Minutes of 7/ 10/91 were approved
Steve announced that he would be giving top priority to
producing a human services directory for the Town Also, the
Trustees of Public Trusts had agreed to contribute $5, 000 to the
Human Services Fund ( emergency financial relief to Lexington
citizens ) for FY 92 This was being supplemented by an
additional $5, 808 from the Town to the extent that this amount
would be needed
Bob Cushman reported on a meeting of the Trustees of Public
Trusts concerning the Human Services Fund He and Steve
attended In addition to the appropriation of $5. 800 for direct
relief , the Trustees agreed to set up an endowment fund ( "the
principal " ) as the nucleus of a permanent fund $ 166 that had
been earned in interest from funds set aside for relief in FY ' Si
were to be added to the principal
The Committee reviewed and revised the first draft of a
Human Services Fund brochure Steve was asked to discuss with
Deborah Radway the feasibility of distributing the brochure
to Lexington families along with the tax bill
Bob Cushman announced that he was stepping down from his
position as Co-Chairman while remaining as a Committee member
Ann Irving will be the new Co-Chairman of the uommittee Renee
said that there was a need for a Committee made up of nine,
instead of the current eight, members
It was agreed to invite the authors of a proposal for a
Lexington Enablement Committee ( merger of current Enablement
Committee and Lexington Citizens with Special Needs ) to the
Committee' s September 4th meeting
Steve distributed a brochure and letter from the Kennedy
School announcing their Field Work Program in Public Policy and
Management The Town will be formally invited to request student
interns for the 1991 - ' 92 academic year Renee suggested that
the request include project options from which the students might
choose
Renee suggested that budget and requests for proposals be
included as topics in the work plan to be discussed at the next
meeting of the Committee
