The Minutes of 5/ 1 /91 were approved
Steve distributed Human Services Fund financial report thru 5/31
showing balance of $ 120; $7, 500 to be made available after July
I Next time, Steve will report on numbers of recipients who
have agreed to pay back and how much The Committee will write
to the Trustees thanking them for their initiative RePlace will
receive $70, 000 from Hancock Church beginning January 1 , 1992 for
sexual abuse education (expansion funding) Steve shared report
of Senior Health Monitor program ; different parts of the report
did not agree on the number enrolled Ellie Klauminzer of
Minuteman Home Care Corp is seeking a mechanism for providing
guardianships Has she considered Cambridge Somerville Legal
Services? Steve announced RFQ for housing for the mentally ill
Mimi Aarens, writer, teacher and trainer, was interviewed as
candidate for the Committee She works in the Mass Department
of Employment and Training with unemployed professionals, has
been particularly interested in older workers She had been
involved in civil rights in Lexington during the sixties, lately
had become interested in Town government and particularly in
RePlace
Rick Saffurd, recently retired physicist, had an earlier interest
in human services stemming from his advocacy in the field of
mental illness This had led to a sympathy with the whole broad
spectrum of people with needs and disabilities He thought the
Committee could emphasize planning and evaluation as well as
publicizing its efforts, had a special concern for young people
who are dysfunctional
Jill Montgomery, Children' s Hospital operating room nurse, wants
to learn about human services in the Town She had a number of
questions for the Committee its degree of involvement with the
elderly concern about the middle age span, how the community
might be organized without reliance un government how to get the
word out to people who are truly in need who don' t read the
newspapers, whether the Committee might be involved in the
creation of a community foundation, and what were the main issues
for the Committee at the present time
Bob Cushman announced that he was resigning as Co-Chairman but
looked forward to finishing out his term as Committee member
