HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-08-08-HSC-min.pdf Human Services Committee Minutes, 8/6/90 Present Renee Cochin and Bob Cushman, Co-Chairmen; Leonora Feeney; Anne Irving ; Seymour Mandel ; Sheila Martin ; Dennis Murakami The Minutes of 7/23/90 were corrected to show that Leonora and Sheila were leaving, not resigning from, the Committee Committee members expressed their regret at the departure of these members Steve will notify the appropriate Town bodies Steve reported on fee charging of COA which does not include overhead , fee policy for Cooperative Elder Services (written statement was requested from COA) , and progress being made by the Senior Health Monitor program Renee commented on her impression of its high quality Steve further reported on need of day care agencies for scholarships The Committee expressed a desire to pursue this topic in the future A Human Services Directory is planned The Committee would like to invite Stella Liu of the library staff to discuss this Draft of report on Heller School needs assessment and proposed action plan was discussed as follows 1 Recommendation and action plan need to be tied together in some way with needs assessment portion ( 2 Action plan needs concrete implementation steps 3 Role of Coordinator needs to be emphasized over that of Committee in terms of putting people in touch with resources 4 Networking was seen as outside of the province of the Committee since it is not a goal -oriented activity The Committee should use its limited resources in goal - directed ways Any meetings that are convened must require that participants have in advance an investment in a goal Thus , effort on setting up a psychiatric emergency system was goal -directed whereas the drug meeting was not 5 Action goals for possible inclusion in plan are a Exploration of fund raising for human services outside of raising taxes b Monitoring of existing Town-funded programs with a view to getting a clearer idea of what the Town is buying as was done this past year in the case of ReP \ aoe ; upgrading the reporting and contracting process / � ' Human Services Committee Minutes , 8/6/80 2 o Conducting data collection, possibly through reporting Reviewing census data Clarifying what are human services expenditures in the Town, including expenditures under the aegis of the School Department d Reviewing Town' s Special Needs Recreation through contact with the Recreation Department, the Integrated Recreation Panel and Lexington Citizens with Special Needs e Investigating needs for transportation through FISH, SHARE-A-RIDE and LEXPRESS � Investigating need for day care g Investigating need for housing h Promoting coordination Recruiting more members to the Human Services Committee ( Respectfully submitted, �]\ k' \'/r . � 1n --/) '^~ Stephen :reran, Human Services Coordinator / L
