The Minutes of 2/21 90 were accepted
Report Human Services Coordinator
Steve reported that orientation for supervisors around the
Employee Assistance Program for Town staff and their families was
proceeding Employees had e'pressed interest in having child
care as a benefit Council on Aging statistics for the Senior
Health Monitor program showed that there were �l active and 7
inactive clients He quoted from a comment in the / report as

Meeting with Heller School students on needs assessment
Renee and Steve had a preliminary meeting with Heller School
students on needs assessment which will include
strategic
ic
* planning, demographics and review of programs Both e'pressed essed
concern' over paucity of available demographic data, particularly
/ ) Since capacity and likelihood of citizens supporting a 2 l/%

Town budget/human services budget update and strategy
Committee members noted large reduction in Town Manager s
original budget on human services It was not clear yet what the
position of senior citizens would be on human services since COA
Town appropriations for senior citizen programs appeared intact
On the other hand, there were large cuts threatened from the
State
There was some discussion around alternatives for cutting within
the human services areas that could potentially be consideredr
e g , Le'press vs Replace, and contingency possibilities for the
Committee were the Selectmen to make recommendations that were
not those of the Committee It is likely that the Human Services
Committee will discuss the general situation concerning human
services when it presents its report under Article 2 at Town
Meeting

Dennis will seek ah update on the scholarship policN, at the ne t
Council on Aging meeting (3/I3/90) Steve suggested that Peg
Jemison, COA case manager, come to talk with the Committee about
the Senior Health Monitor program and that the Heller School
students present their plan for preparing for a needs assessment
at the ne' t meeting of the Human Services Committee, The
Committee was in agreement with both suggestions
