HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-02-08-HSC-min.pdf Minutes , Human Services Committee February 8 , 1988 Present Harvey Lowell, Chairman ; Robert Cushman , Co-Chairman ; Marion Shepp ; Seymour Mandel ; Leonora Feeney ; Sheila Martin The Committee discussed budget recommendations to the Selectmen prior to attending the Selectmen ' s meeting on the recommendations $33 000 for Senior Health Monitor Program Question was raised as to whether the amount earmarked for the Senior Health Monitor Program simply represented funds left over after dealing with other appropriation recommendations It was felt that there were a number of imponderables in the new program numbers of new clients , rate increases , etc The figure , nevertheless represented an approximate figure pending further work by joint sub- committee Replace Rationale for Funding Recommendation $65 000 1 A one-time only increase had been granted last year 2 Amount going to Replace still represents a greater amount than is received by any other agency 3 The size of youth population has diminished 4 The case they make for increased funding is not convincing 5 Factored into the equation should be the technical assistance provided by the Committee and Coordinator 6 The judgement of what to give RePlace was independently arrived at and is unrelated to decisions made concerning other appropri- ation recommendations CMARC Council on Aging and Coonerative_ Gld,er Services These were considered non-controversial items Mystic Valley Mental Health Center Mystic \'alley has been informed of budget recommendations Since ( they did not request funding related to direct services to Lexington residents but only with respect to facilities located in Lexington , no funding was recommended Minutes , Human Services Committee ( 2/ 8/ 88 , p 2 It was noted that the Committee had not been asked to make a presentation to the Appropriation Committee and that not all agencies had been notified of the Selectmen ' shearing on the human services budget Respectfully Submitted , 'Cc511"--- Stephen Baran , Human Services Coordinator
