Minutes, Human Services, Committee, 3/23/87
(-
1 Minutes were approved with the exception that meeting on housing
which took place in the home of Leonora Feeney was meeting of a
subcommittee, not the full Human Services Committee
2 Steve Baran reported on Legislative Breakfast which took place
recently at Metropolitan State Hospital Impression of hospital
administration, appearance of wards , involvement of staff
was very positive Data reflects a decrease in rate of ad-
missions possibly due to involvement of Choate Symmes Psychiatric
Emergency Services which has been increasingly utilized
3 Leonora and Steve reported on meeting involving Guidance De-
partment and Choate Symmes Psychiatric Emergency Service
The meeting seemed to surface a need for involving more community
agencies in dscussing emergency procedures It was discovered
that a policy on responding to suicide was being developed by
the school system The School Department asked for greater
clarity , possibly through Town Counsel, as to liability issues
involved in transporting students by other than police means
Leonora noted need for a meeting which would look at issues of
mental health and youth going beyond emergency procedures ,
but the Director of Guidance was leaning toward beginning with
crisis issues and involving Mystic Valley Mental Health Association
and Family Service of Greater Boston
4 Sheila and Leonora reported on meeting of the youth subcommittee
where a number of needs and issues concerning youth in and out
of school were discussed pointing ultimately to such programs
as a teen center or health clinic
5 Harvey and Bob reported on meeting with Paul Marshall where
feasibility of Housing Partnership proposal was discussed
There was question as to how easy it would be to get the required
number of investors Ruth Nablo of the Lexington Housing
Authority, attending as a guest, wondered whether there might
be some state initiatives which could serve to implement the
Housing Partnership concept
It was agreed to forward copies to the Lexington HousingAu-
thority, Lexhab, and the Tenants ' Association of Emerson Gardens
A meeting with Lexhab to inform them, in particular, in more
detail about the Partnership concept will be arranged
Respectfully Submitted,
