HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-03-23-HSC-min.pdf NEXT MEETING Thursday, April 9 Minutes, Human Services, Committee, 3/23/87 (- 1 Minutes were approved with the exception that meeting on housing which took place in the home of Leonora Feeney was meeting of a subcommittee, not the full Human Services Committee 2 Steve Baran reported on Legislative Breakfast which took place recently at Metropolitan State Hospital Impression of hospital administration, appearance of wards , involvement of staff was very positive Data reflects a decrease in rate of ad- missions possibly due to involvement of Choate Symmes Psychiatric Emergency Services which has been increasingly utilized 3 Leonora and Steve reported on meeting involving Guidance De- partment and Choate Symmes Psychiatric Emergency Service The meeting seemed to surface a need for involving more community agencies in dscussing emergency procedures It was discovered that a policy on responding to suicide was being developed by the school system The School Department asked for greater clarity , possibly through Town Counsel, as to liability issues involved in transporting students by other than police means Leonora noted need for a meeting which would look at issues of mental health and youth going beyond emergency procedures , but the Director of Guidance was leaning toward beginning with crisis issues and involving Mystic Valley Mental Health Association and Family Service of Greater Boston 4 Sheila and Leonora reported on meeting of the youth subcommittee where a number of needs and issues concerning youth in and out of school were discussed pointing ultimately to such programs as a teen center or health clinic 5 Harvey and Bob reported on meeting with Paul Marshall where feasibility of Housing Partnership proposal was discussed There was question as to how easy it would be to get the required number of investors Ruth Nablo of the Lexington Housing Authority, attending as a guest, wondered whether there might be some state initiatives which could serve to implement the Housing Partnership concept It was agreed to forward copies to the Lexington HousingAu- thority, Lexhab, and the Tenants ' Association of Emerson Gardens A meeting with Lexhab to inform them, in particular, in more detail about the Partnership concept will be arranged Respectfully Submitted, dy Stephen Baran, Human Services Coordinator
