Chao, Sheila Martin, Marion Shepp, Stan Finkelstein, Bea Phear Christine Boisvert MR Housing The committee has been invited to speak at the Selectmen's meeting at 8 05 p m. Roberta will read the memo to the Selectmen It was decided to take a position on the need for such housing but not on the specific site Minutes The minutes of the meeting of November 5 were approved as mailed. RePlace Ed and Sheila reported on the RePlace budget request. Last year the RePlace budget was $106,733, with $52,064 requested of the Town For FY1986 they plan a budget of $117,530, and request $62,861 from Lexington. This represents a salary increase of 7% and a new part time position of coordinator of volunteers It is a 20% increase in Town funding from FY 1985 The volunteer position relates to volunteering for elderly Sheila discovered that there may be some overlap with the SPANS program run collaboratively between the High School and the CoA, but it may be targetted at different adolescents Bea pointed out that SPANS has some trouble locating appropriate elderly for a visiting type program, but chore assistnace such as leaf raking would be welcome It is not clear what Replace envisions Leonora pointed out that there are other ways for adolescents to interact with elderly RePlace also plans to explore the issue of battered women on a limited scale and to expand the hours the drop-in center is open Ed felt the numbers had declined for several reasons demographic decline in adolescents, staff turn-over, and more individual than group sessions Judy has no trouble with declining numbers per se, but interested in their definition of need and what they want to accomplish Bea said she does not plan to recommend the additional staff position, as the goals for it have not been fully worked out and the turnover in other staff still has not settled in. Stan asked about DSS funding Leonora said DSS was ready to fund, but RePlace decided not to continue their application. Stan suggested that Leonora help Replace with a DSS application, but she pointed out that the counselling RFP was completed last year, for three year funding, so it would be moot now RePlace relations with the Police seem to be improving Leonora suggested that they use alcohol problems as a potential area of collaboration, because it is where / the Police Department sees the greatest problems \ — Sheila and Ed will come to the next meeting with a recommendation. Hospice Stan and Leonora visited Hospice Care, Inc. to discuss their request. They met with Ed Dolan, the director, who is proposing two programs with a total request of close to $5,000 Hospice serves 5 local towns, but is considering merging with the Malden Hospice, which would expand its area. The programs for which funding isxequested include overnight respite for families and group support for children in three age categories Stan suggested possibly requesting $5,000 from the Trustees as a demonstration for an array of functions There was discussion about the issue of the Trustees wanting to fund only those programs that assisted the poor Bea was asked to float the idea with them in preparation for discussion at the next meeting Next Meeting December 3 , 7 30 p.m. , room 111 Respectfully submitted, PlA Beatrice Phear L
