HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-01-23-HSC-min.pdf HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE Minutes of the Meeting of January 23, 1984 Present Steve Baran Howard Reynolds, Roberta Black Ed Foley, Judy Zabin, Stan Finkelstein, Marion Shepp, Thea Sheveloff, Bea Phear Minutes The minutes of the meeting of January 9 were approved as mailed Sing Along Chorus Bea reported that it was her understanding that the current sing-along program was included in the Recreation budget however the expanded program for older people was in their 'wish list' It was decided that Steve would mention the Human Services Committee's support for this program in the presentation this evening Charitable Trusts Bea reported that there are now 11 Lifeline units in Lexington She also reported that the Adult Day care is spending its funding on several clients There was discussion about havinga meeting with the Trustees or sending a delegate to talk with them about possible renewing of funding or going out for additional ideas The initial proposal requests had said 'bne-time innovative programs , but it is now too late to move any of these programs into the regular channels, and if it is decided to renew funding, it would have to be through the Trusts There might also be other trusts that could be used This will be discussed at the next meeting Policy Steve raised the issue about possible reexamination of the Town's policy in light of changing demographics and changing times Judy feels that the Mystic Valley program cannot really be called prevention. Stan offered to distribute several journal articles that discuss the issue of whether 'prevention works Steve also pointed out that the policy requires 'planning' but feels the committee does not do much planning The Policy will be discussed at the next meeting Cable TV Bea interviewed Nancy Schock on tape last week in a discussion about living with physical disability It will be edited and aired next month Steve is looking forward to doing the program on adult day care and also would like to do one with Mystic Valley Bea had thought Mystic Valley might be interested in one of the following topics early intervention, alternative homes or living with elderly parents Steve is also considering parental stress with the Preschool PTA. Information and Referral Bea reported that she had a nive meeting with Replace to go over referral lists It turned out that most of their referral sources were the same, but some new ones were identified for each of us The meeting adjourned to go to the Selectmen's budget meeting Respectfully submitted Beatrice Phear
