HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-01-08-HSC-min.pdf January 8, 1980 HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE PRESENT Carol Perez, Nicky Osborne, Barry Marshall, Stephen Baran, Ruth Butler, Ruth Nablo Also Elizabeth Pressman ABSENT Howard Levingston PW SOP The meeting was called to order at 7 30 p m by Chairemn Carol Perez She read a letter from Board of Selectmen Chairman Mary Miley wishing the committee a Happy New Year The minutes of December 11 and December 18, 1979 were accepted Stephen Baran asked about the correction to the minutes of November 26, 1979 Elizabeth Pressman told the committee that the correction had been made on the original minutes She will see that Mr Baran gets a copy The Town Manager, Robert Hutchinson, Jr , was introduced to the committee He told the committee that he wanted to say "Hello" and answer any questions that the members might have A discussion followed Mr Hutchinson advised the committee that any information generated by them should be in a form comprehensible to the Selectmen and Town Meeting members He suggested that perhaps the committee might want to meet with Charlie McManus, Town Social Worker, to see whether his services are cost effective A discussion of REPLACE followed The Town Manager suggested that the committee outline areas that they feel need further investigation. Interim observations to Selectmen and Town Meeting would be alright The Town Manager then left Martin Gilman from the Appropriation Committee asked to be recognized Mrs Perez did so A discussion of the relationship between the two committees followed Mr Gilman was asked for and agreed to provide specific questions from his committee for the Human Service Committee Mrs Perez asked committee members to read the report of March 1978 by the previous Human Services Committee She also asked them to review Steve Baran's Draft Schedule for the committee It was agreed that each subcommittee will present their interim reports for the Selectmen to the committee as a whole for their approval A time was made to meet the deadline set by the Selectmen On January 14 Ruth Butler will bring in her short "profile" outline Subcommittees will bring the committee up to date on their work. On January 22 the CMARC interim report will be presented , on January 29 REPLACE, and February 5 or 12 Mystic Valley Mental Health Center Mrs Perez suggested that after February the committee meet less frequently than once a week She also told the committee that Jackie Davidson, chairman of the previous Human Services Committee, is interested in meeting with the current committee After February Dr Bohlen from Boston College could come to speak to the group as well Ruth Butler suggested that the Board of Selectmen be invited to hear Dr Bohlen Some discussion about use of the Munroe School as a Human Service Center followed The committee asked for materials relating to possible tenants and their needs Page 2 Mrs Perez asked Mrs Pressman whether she knew of a newly formed committee dealing with Health Mrs Pressman did not but agreed to look into the matter The meeting was adjourned at 10 15 p m. by Mrs Perez Respectfully submitted, Elizabeth H.
