HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-10-26-TCC-min.pdf 496 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE October 26, 1972 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Reed, Mr Brenchick, Mr Fenske, Mr Lord, Mr Fitzgerald, and Mrs Hall VETERANS DAY The Committee members present made, seconded, and passed a motion to allow the Veterans of Foreign Wars an amount of $50 00 toward their Veterans Day collation costs It was suggested that thank-you letters be sent to the following groups for their faithful and spirited support of our Veterans Day parade They are as follows Campfire Girls, Rainbow Girls, Girl Scout Drum Corps, and the High School Band BI-CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION Chairman Kinston Howard's letter of the Bi-centennial Committee was gone over and discussed On page one of his October 2nd letter under "A" and "B", the Committee raised several questions regarding (1) where exactly will the parade route go?; (2) an expanded budget is a must; (3) there is not enough manpower available to control a "busses only" situation on Patriots Day Mr Fenske expressed himself by saying that our Town Celebrations Committee should act under the direction of the Bi-centennial Committee, but that we should not be subservient to the Bi-centennial Committee On page two of Mr Howard's letter, the Committee discussed in particular his paragraph two beginning with the words "Specifically related to Patriots Day " The Committee feels that if it is the intent of the Bi-centennial Committee to use this paragraph in the way it is written, then the Committee feels that the Bi-centennial Committee might as well take care of the details of that day itself We will accept the Bi-centennial Committee's direction, but we feel we are capable to function on our own Mr Barnes, Chairman of our Committee, will draft a letter, based on the discussions held at this meeting, in response to Mr Howard's October 2nd letter This draft will be discussed, revisions made if necessary, and final Committee approval will be made, these acts to take place at our next TCC meeting on Thursday, November 9th at 7 30 P.M in the Legion Room in Cary Hall In addition, Mr Michelson of the Parade Advisory Committee will be asked to meet with us to talk about suggested parade routes Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary IMPORTANT Please make every effort to attend the next TCC meeting on November 9th There will be no meeting on November 2nd, however
