TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
October 26, 1972
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Reed, Mr Brenchick, Mr Fenske, Mr Lord,
Mr Fitzgerald, and Mrs Hall
VETERANS DAY
The Committee members present made, seconded, and passed a motion to allow
the Veterans of Foreign Wars an amount of $50 00 toward their Veterans Day
collation costs
It was suggested that thank-you letters be sent to the following groups for
their faithful and spirited support of our Veterans Day parade They are as
follows Campfire Girls, Rainbow Girls, Girl Scout Drum Corps, and the High
School Band
BI-CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Chairman Kinston Howard's letter of the Bi-centennial Committee was gone over
and discussed On page one of his October 2nd letter under "A" and "B", the
Committee raised several questions regarding (1) where exactly will the parade
route go?; (2) an expanded budget is a must; (3) there is not enough manpower
available to control a "busses only" situation on Patriots Day
Mr Fenske expressed himself by saying that our Town Celebrations Committee
should act under the direction of the Bi-centennial Committee, but that we
should not be subservient to the Bi-centennial Committee
On page two of Mr Howard's letter, the Committee discussed in particular his
paragraph two beginning with the words "Specifically related to Patriots
Day " The Committee feels that if it is the intent of the Bi-centennial
Committee to use this paragraph in the way it is written, then the Committee
feels that the Bi-centennial Committee might as well take care of the details
of that day itself We will accept the Bi-centennial Committee's direction,
but we feel we are capable to function on our own
Mr Barnes, Chairman of our Committee, will draft a letter, based on the
discussions held at this meeting, in response to Mr Howard's October 2nd
letter This draft will be discussed, revisions made if necessary, and final
Committee approval will be made, these acts to take place at our next TCC
meeting on Thursday, November 9th at 7 30 P.M in the Legion Room in Cary Hall
In addition, Mr Michelson of the Parade Advisory Committee will be asked to
meet with us to talk about suggested parade routes
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn L Hall
Recording Secretary
IMPORTANT Please make every effort to attend the next TCC meeting on
November 9th There will be no meeting on November 2nd, however
