TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
September 28, 1972
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Fenske, Mr Lord,
Mr Fitzgerald, and Mr Brenchick
VISITORS Commander Charles Sullivan, and William Hosford, Veterans of
Foreign Wars
VETERANS DAY
Mr Barnes explained the parade procedure to Commander Sullivan and asked
him to appoint a Chief Marshal and three or four Aides Commander Sullivan
agreed to this and said he would get back to the Committee with the names
Mr Barnes stated that the Committee felt it would like to eliminate its dollar
contribution to the VFW for their Veterans Day collation which usually follows
the parade It was suggested that coffee and doughnuts would be a sufficient
collation Mr Barnes stressed that the number of parade participants had
decreased over the past few years, that they almost wholly lived in Lexington,
and therefore it did not seem necessary to give these participants a complete
luncheon
Both Messrs Sullivan and Hosford felt that the collation was a tradition
and they felt the VFW would like to continue it They stated they were given
lunch in other towns after marching and it was the least they could do for any
guests who marched in our Veterans Day parade They stated they could not
designated between their guests and other participants in the parade, and
therefore would offer the collation to all parade participants The tradition
of this affair evidently means a great deal to members of the VFW The
Committee deferred a decision on the matter until all members of our Committee
are present
Respectfully submitted,
Thelma Reed
