HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-09-28-TCC-min.pdf 494 r TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE September 28, 1972 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Fenske, Mr Lord, Mr Fitzgerald, and Mr Brenchick VISITORS Commander Charles Sullivan, and William Hosford, Veterans of Foreign Wars VETERANS DAY Mr Barnes explained the parade procedure to Commander Sullivan and asked him to appoint a Chief Marshal and three or four Aides Commander Sullivan agreed to this and said he would get back to the Committee with the names Mr Barnes stated that the Committee felt it would like to eliminate its dollar contribution to the VFW for their Veterans Day collation which usually follows the parade It was suggested that coffee and doughnuts would be a sufficient collation Mr Barnes stressed that the number of parade participants had decreased over the past few years, that they almost wholly lived in Lexington, and therefore it did not seem necessary to give these participants a complete luncheon Both Messrs Sullivan and Hosford felt that the collation was a tradition and they felt the VFW would like to continue it They stated they were given lunch in other towns after marching and it was the least they could do for any guests who marched in our Veterans Day parade They stated they could not designated between their guests and other participants in the parade, and therefore would offer the collation to all parade participants The tradition of this affair evidently means a great deal to members of the VFW The Committee deferred a decision on the matter until all members of our Committee are present Respectfully submitted, Thelma Reed (For Marilyn Hall) Recording Secretary
