HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-05-18-TCC-min.pdf 488 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE May 18, 1972 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Brenchick, Mr Fitzgerald, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Captain Edward Silva, Chief Marshal of our Memorial Day Parade MEMORIAL DAY Mav 29 1972 Neil Cronin will procure a copy of General Logan's Orders Of The Day to be read at the service in the Munroe Cemetery Rev Gaudette will be one of the clergy taking part in Memorial Day services along with Rev Handley Mrs Litchfield will call Carlson's Florist Shop and ask that they provide a wreathe stand along with the wreathes She will order the wreathes after hearing from Messrs Barnes and Gaughan, who in turn, will contact the V F W and American Legion for definite numbers of wreathes needed to attend all graves This should prevent any over-ordering The Committee went over the parade roster and parade route with the Chief Marshal The Committee discussed Mr Ellis ' request asking that the Vietnam Veterans Against The War participate in our Memorial Day activities The Committee does not invite people outside LEXINGTON to join our parade, as a general rule, as it is a small parade fbr townfolks only Also, Mr John Cary who is running for Brad Morse's seat in the House of Representatives wants to march in our parade, and Mr Barnes will inform him that because this is a small parade with no political overtones the parade personnel would be restricted basically to townfolks only The Committee discussed at length alternate parade routes for the 1975 parade and other pertinent matters The Committee feels it needs a clear picture of what its responsibilities are for Patriots Day 1975, with duties outlined in writing from which our Committee can work Mr Barnes will contact Mr Howard, Bi-Centennial Committee Chairman, as ask that he spell out our duties clearly and in writing Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary
