TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
May 11, 1972

Mr Lord, Mr Fenske, Mrs. Hall, and Mr Fitzgerald
MEMORIAL DAY May 29, 1972
The Lexington Post of the American Legion will not be sponsoring the parade
for Memorial Day, so it was suggested the Fire Department might be interested
in providing the parade staff Chief Spellman was contacted, and it appears
they are interested in this activity Captain Edward Silva will be our Chief
Marshal, and his parade staff will be named at next week's meeting The Fire
Department will also provide a marching unit
The bus will leave from Munroe School for Westview Cemetery at 9 A.M. for
grave-decorating and program Mr Barnes will ask the Lexington Minute Men
to handle the ceremony at Westview
The parade will have the following groups participate as of this date
marching units from Hanscom Field and the National Guard Armory; the 4-H groups;
the Hayden Twirlers and the Hayden Drummers; representatives from the Bay Path
Colonial Girl Scouts who will act as wreathe bearers; and probably the Rainbow
Girls and Demolay Boys Campfire Girls and Boy Scouts will no be participating
Dan H Fenn, Jr , Director of the John F Kennedy Memorial Library will be
our speaker of the day David Jodice will give the Gettysburg Address

Mrs Litchfield will write to Mr Gillespie to confirm his acceptance of the
High School Band's participation in our parade and program on the Green She
will also write to Mr Mazarrell to see that the speaker's stand is in place
on the Green and that the power box is open and ready
Mr Bill MacIninch will deliver the invocation at Munroe Cemetery and Cary Hall
and will recite General Logan's Orders of the Day
In the event of inclement weather, the Memorial Day Program will take place in
Cary Hall at 10 A.M
PATRIOTS DAY
The Conuuittee received thank you notes from the following Col and Mrs Moll;
New England Rehabilitation Center; Mrs Bairos; co-chairman of the Minute Man
Ball; The Gloucester ROTC Band and Marching Unit; the Logannaires; British
Consul Maitland; Dr and Mrs Gorum; Dr and Mrs Wright
The Freedom High School Patriot Band from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is interested
in marching in our Patriots Day Parade next year They also are interested
in an exchange program Mrs Litchfield will acknowledge their letter and
brochure, and then send both along to Mr Gillespie, Director of the High
School Band
1975 Parade Planning and Discussion of that day's activities will take place
on May 18th at 7 30 P.M in the Legion Room of Cary Hall This is an
important meeting

On May 25th, the Committee will meet with the Lexington Minute Men, Town
Manager, Selectmen, Police and Park Departments for the purpose of discussing
the re-enactment of the Battle of Lexington This is an important meeting
