TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
April 6, 1972
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Fenske,
Mr Brenchick, Mr Fitzgerald, and Mrs Hall
VISITORS Chief Marshal Michelson
Past Chief Marshal Edward Turner
Commander Herbert Miller, American Legion Post 38
This year's budget in the amount of $6200 00 has been approved for the Town
Celebrations Committee expenditures
PATRIOTS DAY
There will be an operational equipment display near the center of town on
Sunday and Monday, April 16th and 17th, compliments of the National Guard
The Town Manager has asked our Committee to coordinate display plans with
the Guard The Guard will police the display on their own
Chief Corr feels he is commited to using the March caterers, even though they
are high in price, for their Patriots Day lunches for all on-duty policemen
Since our Committee is responsible for paying that luncheon bill, we should
advise the Chief to try to find a less expensive caterer for next year We
did not give him enough time this year, and he was already committed
Mrs Litchfield and Mrs Hall will mail out all rosters on Saturday for both
morning and afternoon parades
IMPORTANT All Town Celebrations Committee members should make a special
effort to attend the Fiske Hill ceremony on Saturday, April 15th at 4P.M at
the Fiske Hill site The Lexington Selectmen will be asked to make the
same effort
MEMORIAL DAY
The Committee is to procure a Speaker of the Day for this holiday Mr Maurice
Healy will be the Chief Marshal for the parade
Commander Miller expressed the feeling that the time has come to terminate the
collation following the Memorial Day parade, and the Committee agrees with him
The attendance at this collation does not warrant the money expenditure nor the
time and effort to make it successful
Mr Barnes will contact the Town's Veterans ' Office to get a correct count of
wreathes to be put on graves on Memorial Day He will ask Carlson's Florist
not to make up any more than Veterans ' Office feels are needed
The Committee will meet again next Thursday evening at 7 30 P.M in the Legion
Room of Cary Memorial Hall
Respectfully submitted
