HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-04-06-TCC-min.pdf -479 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE April 6, 1972 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Fenske, Mr Brenchick, Mr Fitzgerald, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Chief Marshal Michelson Past Chief Marshal Edward Turner Commander Herbert Miller, American Legion Post 38 This year's budget in the amount of $6200 00 has been approved for the Town Celebrations Committee expenditures PATRIOTS DAY There will be an operational equipment display near the center of town on Sunday and Monday, April 16th and 17th, compliments of the National Guard The Town Manager has asked our Committee to coordinate display plans with the Guard The Guard will police the display on their own Chief Corr feels he is commited to using the March caterers, even though they are high in price, for their Patriots Day lunches for all on-duty policemen Since our Committee is responsible for paying that luncheon bill, we should advise the Chief to try to find a less expensive caterer for next year We did not give him enough time this year, and he was already committed Mrs Litchfield and Mrs Hall will mail out all rosters on Saturday for both morning and afternoon parades IMPORTANT All Town Celebrations Committee members should make a special effort to attend the Fiske Hill ceremony on Saturday, April 15th at 4P.M at the Fiske Hill site The Lexington Selectmen will be asked to make the same effort MEMORIAL DAY The Committee is to procure a Speaker of the Day for this holiday Mr Maurice Healy will be the Chief Marshal for the parade Commander Miller expressed the feeling that the time has come to terminate the collation following the Memorial Day parade, and the Committee agrees with him The attendance at this collation does not warrant the money expenditure nor the time and effort to make it successful Mr Barnes will contact the Town's Veterans ' Office to get a correct count of wreathes to be put on graves on Memorial Day He will ask Carlson's Florist not to make up any more than Veterans ' Office feels are needed The Committee will meet again next Thursday evening at 7 30 P.M in the Legion Room of Cary Memorial Hall Respectfully submitted Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary 480 I I
