PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mr Fenske, Mr Lord, Mr Fitzgerald, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Hall, and Chief Marshal Michelson VISITORS Neil Cronin, Chamber of Commerce; William Krag, Boy Scouts; Ed Turner, Past Chief Marshal; Norman and Grace Schuler, Minute Men Squares; and William Hamilton, Grace Chapel PATRIOTS DAY The Committee voted to allow music on the Minute Men Squares float, which the Schulers came to discuss Mr Krag will have Jim and Steve Abel as definite Aides for our Chief Marshal However, the Boy Scouts in general are putting up a lot of resistance to wearing their uniforms while performing their duties or marching There will be five troops in our Sunrise parade, one troop in the afternoon parade, with the possibility of two additional troops in the afternoon parade, to be announced The Committee stressed to Mr King that 10 Aides would be needed to help marshal the afternoon parade Mr Krag will keep trying to obtain these scouts McGovern For President supporters inquired as to whether he could be in our afternoon parade They were told he could march with a group of Town people as long as no signs or slogans for McGovern's political aspirations were in evidence They may wish to apply for a float, and if they do, their application will be taken into consideration The Committee stressed the firm ruling of "No Politics" in our parade The float applications handed in to date were picked from a hat at this meeting to establish a fair float order The Chief Marshal made note of this order, and the positions were approved by the Committee, as well We will have Color Guards from the U S Marine Corps and the First Naval District in our afternoon parade We await word of the Navy Band's acceptance The Aleppo Temple Units in our afternoon parade will consist of the Motor Patrol Replica, the Clowns, the Arab Patrol, and the Malden Square and Compass Club The Potentate may also be on hand A group of Cub Scouts from Pack 36 in Haverhill, Massachusetts will be marching in our afternoon parade Mrs Litchfield will write to the Linn Village Drum Band and explain we cannot have them in our afternoon parade simply for economic reasons, as our funds have been expended for parade participants The Liberty Tree contingent will be marching in the 3rd division of the afternoon parade 47 6 We have had acceptances from Gen and Mrs Armstrong, Commanding General at Fort Devens and Senator Saltonstall (who will not be marching, however) Mrs Litchfield will contact the American Legion and ask that they meet with our committee on April 6th to make plans for Memorial Day Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary 1 1
