PATRIOTS DAY
The Committee voted to allow music on the Minute Men Squares float, which
the Schulers came to discuss
Mr Krag will have Jim and Steve Abel as definite Aides for our Chief
Marshal However, the Boy Scouts in general are putting up a lot of
resistance to wearing their uniforms while performing their duties or
marching There will be five troops in our Sunrise parade, one troop
in the afternoon parade, with the possibility of two additional troops in the
afternoon parade, to be announced The Committee stressed to Mr King that
10 Aides would be needed to help marshal the afternoon parade Mr Krag
will keep trying to obtain these scouts
McGovern For President supporters inquired as to whether he could be in our
afternoon parade They were told he could march with a group of Town people
as long as no signs or slogans for McGovern's political aspirations were in
evidence They may wish to apply for a float, and if they do, their
application will be taken into consideration The Committee stressed the firm
ruling of "No Politics" in our parade
The float applications handed in to date were picked from a hat at this
meeting to establish a fair float order The Chief Marshal made note of
this order, and the positions were approved by the Committee, as well
We will have Color Guards from the U S Marine Corps and the First Naval
District in our afternoon parade We await word of the Navy Band's
acceptance
The Aleppo Temple Units in our afternoon parade will consist of the Motor
Patrol Replica, the Clowns, the Arab Patrol, and the Malden Square and
Compass Club The Potentate may also be on hand
A group of Cub Scouts from Pack 36 in Haverhill, Massachusetts will be
marching in our afternoon parade
Mrs Litchfield will write to the Linn Village Drum Band and explain we
cannot have them in our afternoon parade simply for economic reasons, as
our funds have been expended for parade participants
The Liberty Tree contingent will be marching in the 3rd division of the
afternoon parade
47 6
We have had acceptances from Gen and Mrs Armstrong, Commanding General
at Fort Devens and Senator Saltonstall (who will not be marching, however)
Mrs Litchfield will contact the American Legion and ask that they meet
with our committee on April 6th to make plans for Memorial Day
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn L Hall
