TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
March 16, 1972
PRESENT Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mr Fenske, Mr Lord, Mr Brenchick,
Mr Fitzgerald, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Hall, and
Chief Marshal Michelson
PATRIOTS DAY
The Girl Scout Drum Corps will march in both parades The Girl Scout
Old Timers will march in the afternoon parade only (they number
approximately 26) These two groups, should they wish to accompany
the Girl Scout float, would be placed in the 4th division
The Logannaires have asked to march with the American Legion members
The Committee received more inquiries for parade participation, but we
have to inform these groups that our funds allocated for Patriots Day
activities are now expended
The Hayden Twirlers, Drummers, and Juniors will march in the morning
parade The Hayden Twirlers and Drummers only will march in the afternoon
parade
The JAG Naval Reserve Corps' marching unit-numbering approximately 24 men-
wish to march in our 1st division Mrs Litchfield will contact Mr Dailey
to welcome this group and firm up their commitment There is no charge
for this group, of course
There will be no Boy Scout marching units or float in our afternoon parade
They will have perhaps two Aides available to our Chief Marshal
The Senior Citizens will not be participating in our afternoon parade
this year
The Committee voted to accept the A.F S float application It will be
placed in the 2nd division in order to allow the Philippine exchange
student at our High School to view our parade There have been four float
applications received to date, with the possibility of about a dozen
entrants total The final float meeting will be held next week (March 23rd),
and a small write-up will appear in the Lexington Minute-Man announcing
this meeting to the public Mr Fenske will ask Neil Cronin to attend
this meeting with all the float material in hand
The Elks will not have a band marching with their unit
Mr Fitzgerald will ask the Lions Club to have two signs made up (for each
side of the convertible) with the White Tricorn Hat recipient's name on
each sign Parade watchers should know his name, since he is the Honorary
Marshal of the afternoon parade
The roster should emphasize the location change of the reviewing stand in the
afternoon from the Green (for marning parade) to Emery Park Again, we should
emphasize all marching groups to honor the official "Bands Play Here" signs
which will be clearly designated

The Committee voted to hire a second bus on April 17th to carry all people
attending the Sheraton luncheon, who plan to march in the afternoon parade,
to East Lexington, following said luncheon
Mr Gaughan will check into cutting the price of lunches for the Police
Department which seem unusually high ($4 00 per person), and also
inquire as to whether the 12 or so Park Department men could eat with the
Police Department men
The Committee voted to invite Dr Gorum, Director, Army Materials and
Mechanics Research Center at the Watertown Arsenal, and Mrs Gorum to be
our guests on Patriots Day
The Committee further voted to notify all invited dignitaries and guests
that they are welcome, and indeed invited to march with the honorary
parade staff at the head of the afternoon parade This information will
be sent in a follow-up letter to all those dignitaries already invited, but
not informed of the lack of convertibles, so that they may be prepared
to march, if they so wish
Chief Marshal Michelson will have his roster finalized by next week's
meeting
