HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-03-02-TCC-min.pdf 469 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE March 2, 1972 PRESENT Mr Gaughan, Vice Chmn ; Mr Lord, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Fenske, Mr Brenchick, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Paul Nichols - Battle Green DeMolay and Rainbow Jon Adams - Lexington Jaycees William Krag - Boy Scouts Erik A A Nelson - Lexington Elks Mrs Wilkinson - American Field Service PATRIOTS DAY This was our annual Float Meeting, and the Committee accepted the revised float regulations prepared by Mr Fenske unanimously They were passed out to our visitors and reviewed Mr Fenske elaborated a bit on this year's parade theme - "One Nation Under God" and asked that the various groups represented be thinking in terms of our 200th celebration Mr Fenske will see that a write-up gets into the Lexington Minute-Man drumming up more interest for float participation in our afternoon parade Mr Nelson announced that the Lexington Elks will hold open house following the afternoon parade for any and all Minute Men and their wives, the Connecticut Governor's Foot Guard and their wives, and any other Elks present and their wives Mr Adams presented a Jaycees idea of setting up bleachers along the parade route in the vicinity of the Edison Building and the Post Office to help in crowd control and as a money-maker for the Jaycees Seating would be complimentary to the elderly of the Town, with seat reservations being necessary The remainder of seats would be sold to the public, again with reservations being necessary The whole project would be covered by insurance and the total responsibility for all details would come under the auspices of the Jaycees This year the Jaycees would hope to use the Town- owned bleachers Our Committee voted unanimously to approve the general idea for the bleachers, but the Committee can bear NO responsibility for this project The Committee feels this is a worthwhile project, and would probably be invaluable for crowd control, especially in 1975 Fleepo The Clown would again like to be in our afternoon parade, but this year he would like to be the square dance caller on a barn float (which was in a recent Maynard parade) The float has open sides, and children are actually square dancing inside Mr Fenske will contact Fleepo for more explicit details and report back to the Committee Mr Lord had our Check Lists updated and reprinted, copies of which were passed out to TCC members The Invitation List was gone over at that time The Committee voted to invite the Pershing Rifles Unit of Northeastern Il University to march in our afternoon parade, but written stipulations and restrictions were included in that invitation Cr () The 18th Army Band, Color Guard and Marching Unit will be marching with us The Linn Village Drum Band have asked to be in our afternoon parade Mrs Litchfield will call and advise them that the Committee will act on their request at our next meeting Next week we will have a representative from the Police and Park Departments and the Lexington Minute Men meeting with us to go over plans for the re-enactment as well as Patriots Day itself Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary
