PATRIOTS DAY
This was our annual Float Meeting, and the Committee accepted the revised
float regulations prepared by Mr Fenske unanimously They were passed
out to our visitors and reviewed Mr Fenske elaborated a bit on this
year's parade theme - "One Nation Under God" and asked that the various
groups represented be thinking in terms of our 200th celebration
Mr Fenske will see that a write-up gets into the Lexington Minute-Man
drumming up more interest for float participation in our afternoon parade
Mr Nelson announced that the Lexington Elks will hold open house following
the afternoon parade for any and all Minute Men and their wives, the
Connecticut Governor's Foot Guard and their wives, and any other Elks
present and their wives
Mr Adams presented a Jaycees idea of setting up bleachers along the parade
route in the vicinity of the Edison Building and the Post Office to help
in crowd control and as a money-maker for the Jaycees Seating would be
complimentary to the elderly of the Town, with seat reservations being
necessary The remainder of seats would be sold to the public, again
with reservations being necessary The whole project would be covered by
insurance and the total responsibility for all details would come under the
auspices of the Jaycees This year the Jaycees would hope to use the Town-
owned bleachers Our Committee voted unanimously to approve the general
idea for the bleachers, but the Committee can bear NO responsibility for
this project The Committee feels this is a worthwhile project, and would
probably be invaluable for crowd control, especially in 1975
Fleepo The Clown would again like to be in our afternoon parade, but this
year he would like to be the square dance caller on a barn float (which was
in a recent Maynard parade) The float has open sides, and children are
actually square dancing inside Mr Fenske will contact Fleepo for more
explicit details and report back to the Committee
Mr Lord had our Check Lists updated and reprinted, copies of which were
passed out to TCC members The Invitation List was gone over at that time
The Committee voted to invite the Pershing Rifles Unit of Northeastern
Il University to march in our afternoon parade, but written stipulations
and restrictions were included in that invitation
Cr ()
The 18th Army Band, Color Guard and Marching Unit will be marching
with us
The Linn Village Drum Band have asked to be in our afternoon parade
Mrs Litchfield will call and advise them that the Committee will act
on their request at our next meeting
Next week we will have a representative from the Police and Park
Departments and the Lexington Minute Men meeting with us to go over
plans for the re-enactment as well as Patriots Day itself
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn L Hall
