HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-02-10-TCC-min.pdf 465 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 10, 1972 PRESENT• Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Fitzgerald, Mr Brenchick, Mr Gaughan, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Mr Guilmartin and Donna Hopwood - Rainbow Girls Lois Harris - Girl Scouts Alma Richards - Camp Fire Girls Bill Krag - Boy Scouts James Edgar and Norman Daigle - Lexington Minute Men Herbert Miller - American Legion William Collins and William Hosford - Veterans of Foreign Wars PATRIOTS DAY Mr Barnes welcomed our guests and went over the details of procedure for both parades He stressed stationing the young children at the entrance to the Munroe Cemetary rather than at the Munroe School for the Sunrise Parade American Legion personnel will be there to organise the youngsters The need for six or more Boy Scouts as Marshal's Aides during theafternoon parade was discussed Scouts could also assist in lining up the various Town groups on the Green after the Sunrise Parade And they will play an important part in the Fiske Hill ceremony as always Mrs Harris announced that this is the 60th anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouts, and the 50th anniversary of the Lexington Girl Scout Drum Corps There will be a concentrated effort to gather together former members of the Drum Corps to view the afternoon parade and attend a tea in their honor The rainbow Drill Team will march in both parades The Minute Men will provide the Division Marshall and Aides for the 3rd Division, as well as invite groups to participate in that Division All veteran groups will receive the same amount of collation money as was allowed them last year However, they were cautioned to hold expenses down as much as possible The Minute Men have invited the British Consul General, The Honorable Alastair G Maitland to be their guest on Patriots Day The Minute Men again suggested that the Sunrise Parade begin at Muzzey Jr High instead of at the Adams School They also would like to have a Minute Men on our reviewing stand this year to represent their honorable group The Committee so voted We have received acceptance from Diane's Twirlettes, the Clan MacPherson Bagpipe Band, St John's Drill Team of North Cambridge, and the new Red Cross station wagon The letter asked to be placed in front of the horses in the Sunrise Parade This will be done 466 Mr Vaughan Bogosian of the Aleppo Temple has asked to have their motor patrol consisting of 12 mini autos in our parade (afternoon) He will [ be asked to meet with the Committee on Thursday evening, March 9th f 1 Chief Corr, Paul Mazarrell and representatives from the Lexington Minute Men will be asked to attend the above March 9th meeting also to go over plans for the re-enactment scheduled for Sunday afternoon, April 16th at 2 P.M The annual Float Meeting will take place on Thursday, March 2nd Mr Fenske is in charge of sending out notices of this meeting to interested persons Mrs Litchfield will write to the St John's Colonial Girls Fife and Drum Corps of North Chelmsford and advise them we will be considering their participation in our afternoon parade No decision can be made at this time, however Mr Brenchick will order for the Committee 12 more Aide armbands and 3 armbands that read "Town Celebrations Committee" Messrs O'Connell, Corr, and Spellman will be meeting with the Committee next week Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary LJ
