HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-02-03-TCC-min.pdf 463 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 3, 1972 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord, Mr Fitzgerald, Mr Brenchick, Mr Fenske, Mr Gaughan, and Mrs Hall PATRIOTS DAY The Committee was invited to attend a film-showing on February 18th at the National Guard Armory compiled by the Lexington Minute-Men The Minute-Men sent a letter to our Board of Selectmen regarding their planned re-enactment of the Battle of Lexington on April 16th at 2 P.M on the Green The Board, in turn, referred the Minute-Men to this Committee for working out details of this activity Meanwhile, Mrs Litchfield will thank First Lieutenant Robert J Marrigan for the invitation to attend the film-showing, and that the Committee will be working with the Minute-Men on all facets of the re-enactment The Committee received a thank-you note from Mrs Lawrence E Stone for our expression of sympathy in her husband's death Mr Barnes will send in a write-up to the Lexington Mintue-Men paper announcing this year's parade theme A letter from Mr Gillespie of the High School explains that the High School Band will be marching in both parades, and the Junior Highs Band in the Sunrise parade We received a request from St Bartholomew's Band Association of Needham asking to march in our afternoon parade Mrs Litchfield will advise them that a decision will be forthcoming soon Mrs Litchfield will invite Norwich University to march in our afternoon parade as they have for the past several years The Committee voted not to have convertibles in the afternoon parade The Committee will march the parade route, and we will invite our dignitaries to do likewise There may be one or two convertibles for those unable to march Obtaining convertibles for this parade is becoming an impossible task Mrs Litchfield will mention this change in plans in the invitations she sends to our dignitaries, so they will know of the marching plan in advance The reviewing stand will again be located in Emery Park The luncheon will take place at the Lexington Sheraton Motor Inn The reception will be held, following the afternoon parade, at the Belfry Club Mrs Litchfield will contact Mrs Moyle regarding the catering of that reception We will notify the Methuen Cadet Corps and Girls Drill Team that we would be happy to have them participate in our afternoon parade We will hold up on their band for the moment, however, and will be in touch with them in the near future 464 We will allow the Logannaires Color Guard and Drill Team of Somerville $125 00 this year This is up $25 00 from last year This group seems very worthy of this increase, however Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary Lexington's Youth and Veterans groups will meet with the Committee next week- (February 10th) ._J
