TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
January 20, 1972
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Fenske, Mr Lord, Mr Fitzgerald,
Mr Brenchick, Mr Gaughan, and Mrs Hall
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter from a Mrs Plakias, Parade Committee Secretary, Town of Westwood
asks of we have a Spirit Of '76 or Fife and Drum Corps available to march
in their parade commemorating the separation of Westwood from the Town of
Dedham This would be their 75th anniversary of that separation We will
explain we do not have either of the two groups mentioned available, but
will refer her letter to the Lexington Minute-Men for their possible
participation
The Lexington Girl Scouts have asked permission to invite a Brookline
Girl Scout Troop to march with them in our Sunrise Parade We heartily
concur
The Committee has a list of good High School bands from Don Gillespie, our
High School Bandmaster, for our reference
The Committee has come up with a probable parade theme which is not to be
publicized as yet It is up for reconsideration at next week's meeting
The theme is worded thus "OUR NATION-ONE HERITAGE, ONE DESTINY"
The Committee voted to invite the following parade groups to march in our
afternoon parade
Clan MacPherson Malden Square and Compass Club
Linda's Rangerettes Logannaires Color Guard and Drill Team
Diane's Twirlettes Brenda's Twirlettes
Lexington High School Band St Theresa's Sr and Jr Drill Teams
Lexington Junior Highs Band St Mary's Drum and Bugle Corps
Methuen High School Cadet Corps Wakefield Majorettes
Wakefield High School Band St John's Evangelettes Drum and
Surburban Sharpshooters Drum Bugle Corps
and Bugle Corps
Mrs Litchfield will ask Mr Gillespie, in conjunction with the High School
Band's invitation to march in both parades, to provide a bugler for our
morning exercises on the Green She will also ask that the Junior Highs
Band march in both parades She will comprise a list of all invited groups
for this year's parade, giving last year's cost, so that the Committee will
have a good idea of parade expenditures to date
The Fiske Hill ceremonies will take place on Saturday, April 15th at 4 P.M
Mr Barnes will notify Concord's Selectmen of this, and assure them that
Lexington will see to all arangements for the ceremonies
MISCELLANEOUS
Mrs Litchfield will write to Mr Charles Jefferson at the Town Offices

notifying him of our missing Town Celebrations Committe stationery which
this Committee has already paid for A copy of her letter will go to
the Town Manager
