HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-04-01-TCC-min.pdf 442 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE April I , 1971 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Hall , Mrs Reed r Messrs Lord, Gaughan, Fenske, Brenchick and Fitzgerald VISITORS Chief Marshal Turner and Chief of Staff Hunt Frank Sherman, James Broderick, and Chester Duval PATRIOTS DAY Mr Sherman stated that the V F W would have their State Commander, Richard Lowler; their State Jr Vice Commander, Mr Cenina, and a Color Guard in the parade Mr Duval was representing the championship Lexington basketball team, and the team members will ride in open cars in the 4th division Acceptances have been received from Brad Morse, Adm R W Goehring, Col Passales, Col Robert Burns representing Col Farris, Mr and Mrs Robert Cataldo, Sen Ronald MacKenzie, Capt Mac A Graham representing Adm Wiley, and Colonels Kenney and Flinders We have also had acceptances from the U S Naval Base Boston Band; the U S Air Force Reserve Band; Color Guards from the Marines, the 1st Naval District, and the Coast Guard The following groups will also participate Needham Girl Scout Drum and Bugle Corps; Diane's Twirlettes; the Methuen High School Cadet Corps; St Mary's Drum and Bugle Corps; Dukes of Marlborough Drum & Bugle Corps and the Duchess Prep Drill Team; Suburban Sharpshooters Drum & Bugle Corps; Fleepo the Clown; and the Malden Square and Compass Club Mr Alfred Buse, Selectman, requested that the judging of the floats be pushed ahead one-half hour, to allow the Selectman on the Judging Committee time to get to the luncheon on the appointed hour The request was too late for action this year, but will be considered for next year's celebration ORDER OF FLOATS (Drawn for parade) I Phillips 66 2 Citizens for Participation Politics 3 Lexington Lodge of Elks 4 Campfire Girls 5 Republican Town Committee 6 Lexington Sister City Corporation 7 Lexington Jaycees 8 St Brigid's Cub Scout Pack 11160 9 Lexington Girl Scouts 10 Lexington Lions Club II Student Mobilization Committee Mr Barnes will call the Fort Devens 18th Army Band to see if they are coming Mrs Litchfield will call the Northeastern Counter Guerrilla Group for their acceptance The Committee went over the check list again Mr Barnes noted that there will be no State Police Women marching this year Mr Turner also stated that there will be no Boy Scouts in the afternoon parade Mrs Litchfield will contact the Air Force and National Guard, and Mrs Hall and Mrs Reed (. will contact the youth groups Mr Gaughan will contact Mr Tropeano in regard to a flag detail for the morning services on the Green Mr Broderick, a past member of TCC, will be the Chief Marshal for our Sunrise Parade i1 April 1st minutes continued FISKE HILL Ceremonies at Fiske Hill have been set tentatively for 4 PM on Saturday, April 17th, 1971 MEMORIAL DAY Mrs Hall will invite Mr Herbert Miller, Commander of the American Legion, to meet with us next week to plan for the Memorial Day parade The National Guard and Hanscom Base Units will be asked to march with us in this parade USS LEXINGTON MEMORIAL SERVICE Mr Rex Turcotte has set Sunday, May 2nd for the annual memorial service commemorating those men lost on the USS Lexington during the Battle of the Coral Seas Respectfully submitted, Thelma Reed for Marilyn L Hall , Recording Secretary
