PATRIOTS DAY
Mr Fenske opened the meeting as Chairman of our Float Committee, and he welcomed
our visitors and went over the ground rules of float participation
Mr Feinberg, of the High School Student Mobilization Committee, announced their float
would have the theme of "Stop The War" basically, as opposed to the Committee's theme
this year which is "Pride In Our Past--Faith In Our Future" Therefore, the High School
float would not be in competition for the Chamber of Commerce awards They wish to
have a group of about twenty students marching behind their float with black armbands on
Mr Fenske cautioned them about students in the crowds breaking into their group and
causing an unruly situation Mr Feinberg felt they could police their own group and
keep it orderly
The Lions Club will have a float, but it will not be in competition The Elks will
also have a float and possibly a marching unit Floats will be entered for competition
by the Lexington Girl Scouts and Cub Pack /1160 The Senior Citizens will again enter
an antique car with members in colonial dress, and will work through Mr Beckwith who
is in charge of antique cars in our parade
Mr Surrette felt he would not be interested in entering our afternoon parade with the
replica of the Follen Church if we did not allow it to be pulled by horses We ex-
plained to him that the safety factor of horses in a parade which winds through so
many people has to be considered; and therefore, he does not feel he can participate
St Theresa's Drum and Bugle Corps will be marching with us, as will the Logannaires
Color Guard and Drill Team (They have asked to march with the American Legion)
Mrs Litchfield will make up a list of applicant groups whom we are keeping on file for
the moment They will be considered in the near future Some of these groups are
St Peters Bagpipe Band (30 marchers, ages 8-14 yrs ); St Mary's Drum and Bugle Corps
(50 marchers); The Dukes and Duchesses of Marlboro, a senior Drum and Bugle Corps
(90 members) with a Drill Team (65 members) ; Evangeletts of St John's in N Cambridge
(a marching unit only made up of 50 members); Suburban Sharp Shooters Drum and Bugle
Corps (80 marchers) ; I C Rockettes and Comets, Inc from Salem (70 marchers with
average age of 16 yrs )
Chief Marshal Turner will make up a temporary roster for next week's meeting to see how
the parade stands on bands and marching units
Mrs Litchfield will send out our invitations to dignitaries to be our guests in the Town
of Lexington on April 19th Mrs Hall will firm up luncheon arrangements, and check into
gift favors for our lady guests All Committee members are reminded to seek out any
available convertibles for our PM parade
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn L Hall , Recording Secretary
