HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-02-11-TCC-min.pdf 436 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February II , 1971 PRESENT Chmn Barne , Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Fenske, and Mrs Hall VISITORS Mr Stickney and Miss Doris Klemm - Rainbow Girls George Gabriel and James Edgar - Lexington Minute Men Commander Herbert Miller - American Legion Kenneth Campbell - Boy Scouts Chief Marshal Edward W Turner PATRIOTS DAY The Rainbow Girls Drill Team will march in both parades, and will consider entering a float in the PM parade The groups from the Hayden Recreation Centre will participate in both parades The Lexington Girl Scouts will enter a Drum Corps in the AM parade, and possibly also in the PM parade In addition, they are considering entering a float in the PM parade The Lexington High School Band will march in both parades Mr Campbell of the Battleroad District, B S A , was enthusiastic about getting larger numbers of Boy Scouts out to march in both parades He will also check into the possibility of the boys' entering a float in the afternoon parade, or even more than one float We hope to have an impressive Boy Scout turnout this year Commander Miller announced the American Legion would again put on the collation at their hall following the PM parade Lexington's Post will invite the various posts around Lexington to march in the PM parade A small number of Lexington Legionnaires will march in the AM parade as well Mr Miller reported the Lexington Senior Citizens are again interested in dressing up in colonial costume and riding in an antique car in the PM parade Mr Melbye of the Senior Citizens will be notified of our Float Meeting at which time the details of this phase of the PM parade will be worked out, in conjunction with planning of antique car participation with Mr Ellison Beckwith Mr Gabriel requested that the Lexington Minute Men be allowed to lead the PM parade This request has been made before A long discussion ensued Mr Gabriel was assured that a vote would be taken on this matter the next time the entire Town Celebrations Committee met Mr Gabriel would then be notified of the results of that full committee vote We have received word that the Linn Village Drum Band will be marching in our PM parade again, much to the Committee's delight They are a spectacular group Float Meeting Date Set The annual Float Meeting date has been set for Thursday, March 4th at 7 30 PM in the Bird Room of Cary Memorial Hall Mr Fenske will send out notices to interested groups to this effect F Mrs Hall will ask Mr O'Connell , Town Manager, and representatives of Lexington's Police and Fire Departments to meet with the Committee next week, February lath, at 7 30 PM in the Bird Room.
