PATRIOTS DAY
The representatives of the Lexington Minute Men went over the details for
their first re-enactment of the Battle of Lexington scheduled to take place
on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock on April 18, 1971 In case of rain, the
Minute Men would schedule the re-enactment for the following Sunday, the
25th, at the same hour The TCC accepted responsibility for providing a
public address system; going over plans with Chief Corr concerning traffic
control and the possible closing off of some streets; checking on the
Green itself to be sure areas are cordoned off to control spectators
We will meet with the Minute Men closer to Patriots Day for last minute
planning They will mail the committee copies of all their publicity
concerning the re-enactment so that all parties involved are informed
Of interest to the Minute Men and our committee was the passage of Article V
of the Town Meeting which allows the discharge of blank ammunition
Mrs Litchfield will invite the following to participate in our parade on
April 19th Norwich University, Wakefield Majorettes, Clan MacPherson,
Malden Square & Compass, National Guard, and the various High School Bands,
including our own
There will be only one or two cars in the afternoon parade for those dignitaries
who are unable to march in the parade The committee, clergy, and any invited
dignitaries and guests will be invited to march at the head of the parade It
was suggested we use the shuttle bus to transport all interested marchers from
the luncheon at the Lexington Sheraton Inn to East Lexington
The committee discussed combining our second and fourth divisions of the
afternoon parade, and putting the third division in the #2 spot behind the
first division This discussion will be further pursued
Our Chairman will name this year's Chief Marshal very soon The committee is
asked to come to the next meeting (January 21st) with parade theme ideas in
mind
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn L Hall
