HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-01-07-TCC-min.pdf 431 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 7, 1971 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Vice Chmn Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mr Lord, and Mr Fenske PATRIOTS DAY Patriots Day falls on a Monday this year - April 19, 1971 - and Mrs Hall has reserved the main ballroom for the annual Patriots Day luncheon for our invited dignitaries The luncheon will take place at the Lexington Sheraton Inn as in recent years Mrs Litchfield has received acknowledgements of our invitations to participate in our parade from the Coast Guard, First Naval District, and Fort Devens Mr Barnes read a letter from the Lexington Minute Men regarding their plans for a re-enactment of the Battle of Lexington in conjunction with the com- mittee's Patriots Day planning for this year's celebration Mrs Litchfield was asked to invite Lt Robert J Marrigan of the Minute Men to meet with the committee at our next meeting, January 14, 1971 , for discussion of the matter Mrs Litchfield was asked to write to the ROTC units at Northeastern University, Tufts University and Boston University and invite them to march in our parade on April 19th MISCELLANEOUS It was decided that Mr Barnes would speak with Mr Cataldo and Chief Corr, and to Mr Cole as Moderator, to be recognized on the floor of the Town Meeting to add an amendment to Article V having to do with the discharge of firearms in the town Mr Barnes has, at this date, already spoken with Mr Cataldo concerning Article V, and a sentence will be added by the Hunting Committee permitting the discharge of blank ammunition The committee was concerned with this Article as musket volleys, etc are an important part of our patriotic ceremonies in the town Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary
