HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-05-14-TCC-min.pdf 421 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE May 14, 1970 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Lord, Mr Broderick, Mr Fenske, and Mrs Hall VISITOR Mr Neil Cronin MEMORIAL DAY Mr Cronin announced that Maurice D Healy, Past Commander of Stanley Hill Post #38 of the American Legion will be the Chief Marshal Mr Crorni'n, a Past Commander himself, will be Chief of Staff MR Lord announced that George Abell , a High School Junior, will read the Gettysburg Address Mr Saunders reported that the Lexington Minute Men will take charge of a firing squad for the day, and Mr Broderick of our committee will be in charge of the color guard for the raising and lowering of the flag on the Green The committee received a letter from the Committee On The Lowering Of The Flag which requested that the flags in Town be lowered to half staff to mourn the four Kent State students who recently lost their lives The flags will , in fact, be lowered for ALL who have died in the service of their country; and Rev Handley will include in his address on the Green ALL people who have died in the service of their country, but with no direct reference to Kent State students or any other groups Chmn Barnes has written a letter to this effect to the Board of Selectmen Mr Gillespie has answered in the affirmative our invitation to the High School Band to participate in our parade on May 25th Mr Lord will inform Mr Gillespie of final details for the Band ALTERNATE PLAN In case of inclement weather, there will be an appropriate program for Memorial Day in Cary Memorial Hall at 10 AM on May 25th Directions concerning these plans will be included in the rosters Mrs Hall will call Mrs McCurdy in the office of the Board of Selectmen to make proper arrangements for Cary Hall , should they be needed Mrs Hall will mail all rosters to parade par- ticipants by Tuesday, May 19th PATRIOTS DAY Mrs Reed has typed all the thank-you letters to car dealers and owners who were so kind as to lend us their vehicles on Patriots Day "I975CECEBRATI0N We will hold a meeting on Thursday evening, May 28, 1970 for the dis- cussion of organizing plans for the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Lexington This will take place in the office of the Board of Selectmen at 8 PM Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L Hall Recording Secretary 1
